How often has this occurred? Consistently every month? That is a bit weird, I have experienced nausea once or twice, but I've never actually thrown up.

There is a rare condition called dysmenorhea that some women experience. It is when a day or two before their period starts they experience reeeaaallly bad cramping that radiates to their back. Sometimes it's so bad that it is linked to diarhea, vomiting, or nausea, and cramping that is bad enough for it to prohibit normal day-to-day activities. Also with dysmenorhea, the symptoms start one to two days before menstruation begins and becomes the worst the first day of the flow, usually. I think it is linked to abnormal contractions of the uterus. You can get tested for it at a doctor if symptoms persist, but it's not very common... although I'm sure half the women on here, myself included, feel their selves sharing symptoms!

Nausea
I have also experienced this. For me the symptoms got gradually worse over time. After the nausea was so severe it actually woke me up. I thought back to some obscure study i had heard about several years ago that indicated that women that have severe morning sickness have children that have huge cravings for salt.

So I decided to add more Iodine to my diet. (I was having processed sea salt with no iodine added, I didn't know that the processed salt has all the natural iodine removed)

Since then i have had no problems with nausea

Here is an article on iodine that links iodine to hormones.

I am not a doctor, so there probably other things it can be. You should probably look up recomended intake for iodine to be on the safe side.

I had something very similar when I am not on any form of hormonal birth control. My cramps come before my menses. In highschool, I did miss several days because of the cramps. The cramps were so incredibly painful that I have indeed become nauseous and vomited due to them. However, it didn't happen every month. Pamprin could control the cramps if taken in time and then I would not get sick.

Pain can cause nausea and diarrhea, and I had odd bowel movements due to the pain as well. As I said, pamprin was the cure for me until I got onto hormonal birth control. That eased my symptoms greatly, so much that I didn't even need pamprin! Just medium/light cramping.

This nausea and diarrhea is definitely not normal every month. I would take her in.

Nausea, Vomiting With Periods
I have had that as a teenager. This is how endometriosis manifests itself in the beginning. Don't ignore the symptoms, they won't go away, they will only get worse and will lead to infertility. It took 23 years of suffering and 9 OB/GYNs to diagnose and threat my condition. Read as much as you can, find a doctor that is knowledgeable about the disease. The best site I was able to find on the subject:

Premenstrual nausea, fatigue
I also have this quite bad before a period, and must often spend a day or two in bed. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism, so my hormones are all crazy imbalanced.

It sounds like only a doctor and maybe ultrasound can explain what is going on so that you know how to treat her. I DO know that birth control really helps most people!

period pains, vomitting, fainting
yeah, that's true, i myself have severe period symptoms, pain with nausea, with vomitting, diarehea, lying in bed, unable to stand or sit straight, it's terrible.... i used to take injections for the pain, and medicine.. but it didn't do much.. so i got myself to take the medicine and injection exactly before my period comes...I always felt like fainting.. and i couldn't say a word... i lied in bed for a couple of days.. and kept drinking warm cinnamon, which is so good to let the blood flow smoothly..

but now i have decided to stop all medicine.. and play regular sports every month to ease my period. it worked well, but i still get the pain but not vomitting , i feel like vomitting but i don't. i feel like fainting.. and i hate to communicate with people when i have it, or then i will be so rude.. because i get a problem in breathing while i have it, and talking to someone makes me feel like fainiting..

My daughter has been hospitalized for four months in a row for chronic vomiting. She gets dehydrated and anti-nausea meds don't work (phenegran, zofram). Eventually, after IV fluids and more meds, she recovers. This seems to happen just prior to her menstrual cycle. She has numerous tests and even had her gall bladder removed and still has the same symptoms. Suggestions?

severe vomiting!
I have been experiencing severe vomiting every two months just before my period. I don't have a problem with cramps although last time I did have very severe pains the day after. We thought it was gall bladder related so we did a cleanse but two months later it came back. It seems to happen 2 days before my period every other month. I vomit from 10-25 times each time i'm sick so my stomach gets very sore! I have tried taking gravol and it never works! Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Re: Nausea, Vomiting Before Period
I also had this problem but unlike many others, I never had cramps. Three months after I stopped my birth control, NuvaRing - which I had been using for about 4 years, I developed the same symptoms as others here. About 3-5 days before my period, I would get nauseated and retch for about three hours. I was sensitive to smells and it would hit me any time of the day. All my friends said it sounded like morning sickness. It happened every month for almost a year. My doctor ran all sorts of tests for thyroid problems and hormone issues, hypoglycemia, everything always came back normal. I was put on combination birth control (this time I tried Ortho TriCyclen) but that didn't help. Finally, I got some relief using MicroNor (NorQD) the progestin only birth control. I don't wish to be on any kind of contraceptive right now but it beats feeling sick every month. My doctor still doesn't know what happened or why this birth control worked. He suggested I maybe stop the birth control and try a natural progesterone cream. I haven't done that yet but maybe it will work for anyone else suffering.
