What Survival Rates For Stage 3 Lung Cancer Posted: 07-27-07 04:31am


Hi people. Have anyone here has survived a stage 3 lung cancer. My sister in law has it and the lung cancer has spread to her chest wall and diaphragm. what are the survival rates for stage 3 lung cancer ? I need your replay quickly please .... Thanks

Hi!
Survival rates always depends on treatment that was used for lung cancer and what kind of treatment will be performed depends on the spread of a cancer, the type of lung cancer, where in the lung the cancer is, the size of the cancer and patient general health.
Some patients in 3 stage can still have surgery, but your sister in low has spread cancer(cancer cell invaded the chest wall and diaphragm) and i think she can't be treated with operation. Patients who undergo surgery have 30% 5 years life expectancy.
She'll be probably treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy and the rates ranges 7-17%. If she has only radiotherapy her chances fall to 5-10%.
