Q: Big Girl Carseat

We finally got Ava's Britax Boulevard carseat installed. Something just doesn't seem right. I'm just being paranoid probably. She's not in the middle like her infant seat, which I don't like, but oh well. I just hope she's comfortable. I hope he installed it right.

if it doesn't seem right you should definitely take it to get inspected.

is it just that you're not used to it?

finn's fits perfectly and he looks so snug and secure. i love it.

Most police stations will inspect it and let you know it's ok, because if its not and can be very dangerous! Good luck! Those things are tricky I know!

I think I'm just not use to it and I'm worried she's not comfortable.
Is Finn's in the middle or on the side? I don't like it on the side, but it's the only way it'll go. It pushes the passenger seat so far up that no one can sit there unless they like their knees smashed into the glove box.
I actually stopped by the state trooper office today to see if I can have it checked out and I fell in love with the state trooper. lol He was a cutie! He looked like Jesse too. ANYWAY, back to carseats! There was no one there to do it, so he gave me a number to call to make an appointment. I'm 99% sure it's installed correctly, I just want to make sure, so I'll feel better. I don't like the bulky straps!

finn's is on the side, his bucket seat was too. i feel safest using the latch system and you can only use those on the side. also, the best fit is wherever is installs the best. they recommend the middle but for most people the best fit is on the sides.

he seems so much more comfortable in this seat and i can tell he likes being higher up and able to see out the windows.

as for the bulky straps, you can remove the crotch pad and the shoulder pads (those are just for comfort), you can also remove the plastic/rubbery strap cover things but keep them somewhere safe because you do need to use them when she's forward facing. i left all those on though, i especially like the shoulder pads because the straps can't rub on his neck.

what do you drive? we have a small sedan and we didn't have to push the passenger seat forward at all. i know we have different seats (ours is the marathon) but i don't think there's much of a difference in size if there is one at all. in fact, the britax takes up less room than his bucket seat did.

I drive a Nissan Pathfinder. B/c it has 3 rows of seats, we probably have less room than you behind the driver and passenger seats. Her infant seat was in the middle and I loved it. I don't care for it being on the side, but that's the only way it'll install.
I'll take out the rubber pieces. It's a pain to have to make sure the pads are on top of the rubber pieces. It keeps sliding to her neck. She tries to pull the whole things off.

I always ride in the back with her. If there's someone else in the car, they ride in the back with her. The only time she's alone back there is if we're by ourselves.
Am I the only one that sits in the back? Confused

We'll just take it out when we go places without her.

the shoulder pads don't need to be over the rubber pieces, especially since the shoulder pads are optional. i put the pads on top of his shoulders, then the rubber pieces are further down.

the only time i've ever sat in the back with finn was on the way home from the hospital. i have a mirror back there so i can take a quick look to see what he's doing if i need to. i wouldn't have wanted him to get used to having me back there with him anyway since most of the time i take him out on my own so there's nobody to sit back there with him.

what does she do if she's alone back there?

I place the pads right above the rubber pieces, if not, it rubs in her neck. Jesse said that the seat has to be reclined all the way, is that right??

We bought two mirrors, neither worked in our car. She's fine by herself. She plays or looks out the window. I just like to ride back there with her or always have someone with her if I can.

If she's sleepy, I don't ride in the back b/c she falls asleep best if she's alone back there.

it should be in recline mode when you install it RF, but it does not have to be at a full 45* angle for an older baby with better head control. As long as her head doesn't flop forward when she falls asleep, it's probably fine. it's actually safer to have it as upright as the baby is comfortable with (as long as it's no more than a 30* angle).

I think she'd be more comfortable and we'd have more passenger leg room if we'd put it up more, but he insisted that it had to be reclined. She's not comfortable reclined. I'll try when we go out today. If the rain stops I need to go to the Nextel store, Walmart, and Ava has a play date.
