I had an allergic reaction to latex on both hands. They are swelled and covered in blisters. I went to the ER and they gave me a steroid cream and pain pills. Doc said its a slow process to heal. Just wandering if anyone has had this and how long did it take to heal up

Thanks for any replies Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

WEll on days i used a new gloves, after a couple of minutes my hands become red and they start itching, it takes up to to the moment i took an antihistamin pill, well you see i'm an allergic to food, and many things, but never thought to latex. the doctor prescribe you a local course of treatment, for cure, it will take for a week of two. Just wonder, why the doc did not prescribe you an antihistamine pills?

Latex Allergy
I am allergic to latex. Use latex free gloves and be careful about using adhesives too. Usually if your allergic to one your allergic to the other also. Take care Smile

Hi
My daughter had an allergice reaction to latex gloves from the dentist. Her face also was swollen for a couple hours, but I too agree with Metalheart, why were you not given an antihistamine? You can buy the generic form of benedryl and take 50 mg at a whack. The swelling usually goes away in a couple hours, her tiny welts were there overnight but faded the next day.

Another thing to watch for if you are allergic to latex is feminine products. There is nothing on the labels that tells you there is latex in them, but after over a month of misery that the doctors couldnt figure out, and some research on the web, I found the culprit!

It will take a while for the damage to go away if you were at the weeping blister point. The blisters themselves will heal up in just a day or 2 from the steriod cream, but I have found the redness/tenderness/mild itching to be lasting about a week after all contact is stopped. I would also be watchful of the steriod cream, it seems to be kinda harsh, and can inflame other dermatitis issues.

The others are right about the antihisamine. Benadryl is good. It helps with the itching.
