hi all...just diagnosed with chlamydia yesterday..34 and never been tested for gon/chlam std's...i have for others and have annual paps. I have had two long term relationships with no cheating ( i am pretty sure!). My queston is: has anyone had chlamydia for a long time and did it effect reproduction? My worst case is that i have had it for 3 years and what damage it may have caused...i have never had kids, but hope to..when i see my dr for my follow up and antibiotics, should i request a fertility test?
thanx for any feedback!

Chlamydia if left untreated can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. I don't know how long it takes for PID to develop. Since chlamydia is generally symptom-less, as are a number of other sti's it is important to have FULL sti screening between sexual partners if possible.

Back to the question. PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) can cause permanent damage to the reproductive organs which can result in infertility.

Ask your doctor/gyno if there is a way to tell if you have developed PID. Then go from there.

Here is some information from the CDC on chlamydia, including information on PID.
