Castor Oil
Posted: 07-25-07 05:41am

Im 39 wks and desperado to get this little sucka out so on sunday at 2pm i took 2 ounces of castor oil, mmm yum yum! I researched in on the internet and thought this was the stuff for me! Well about 20 mins later I was feeling extremely nauseous having cold sweats and getting tummy cramps, but not contractions.

I was on the loo needless to say continuously for hours and hours and I was frantically praying that I wouldnt go into labour in this state as it would of just been so embarrassing I wouldnt of been able to cope!

When the going to the loo finally stopped at about 9pm I was so pleased. Then at 10pm I started getting weak contractions on and off very irratic. I was so excited. They settled down and i tried to get some sleep at about 1am and at 2am they were painful and I couldnt lay down any longer. I was up from 2 - 6 with contractions and I thought this was it but then they just stopped! I was gutted. Think my plug fell out the next morning so I was all ready for something to happen but nothing as yet and its now wednesday.

Not sure wat to do now, im even more desperate to meet my new bubba and make sure he's all ok but im sure the best bet is to wait til the little fellas ready and not force him.

Hope this was helpful to someone xx

Babies are only born when they're ready no matter what you do. I wished so so hard for my daughter to come from about 38 weeks, i walked loads, ate curry, tried nipple stimulation and had my membranes swept but Mika still came 11 days late

When I was about 39 weeks I tried the Castor Oil thing it did not work at all but I also tried Red Rasberry Leaf Tea, it is used to make labor smoother, induce labor, make your uterus healthier, and make a better recovery afterwards, I think it helped a little bit. Also Primerose tablets help alot I woultake two of them a day, and put two of them down there, as told to by midwife. It helped soften my cervix, and I had contractions, I went about 4 days early went pretty fast. You can only get these things from the health food store, or organic herbal stores. Good luck to you Smile

I heard that sugar cane juice helps induce labor. My aunt did it twice for both of her pregnancies.

She was dialted about 2 cm when she went to the hospital after drinking the juice and 20 minutes later was a full 10cm.

You never know...and it's a lot more tastier than castor oil!

Castor oil works for one of my sisters but not for the other. Both of my sisters recommend you don't try it. They say you just poop allot and then it tastes so horrible it is not worth it.

One of my sisters swears by Evening Primrose Oil. Says that it puts her into labor about a week or 2 after taking 3 a day for awhile.

Naturally Inducing

Right girls, yesterday I had a hot curry, drank loads of pineapple juice, went on my stepper machine and stimulated my nipples, all were not very pleasant and nothings happened. Confused

My conclusion is my gorgeous lil bubba will come when he's ready! Its obviously far to cozy n toastie in my belly to come out yet!

But saying that I have been recommended to try reflexology. Apparently if you tell the reflexology person that your full term and desperate for your bubba to make an appearance then they can help. I know 2 people who this worked for. 2 days later maximum.

Good luck all xx

lol! I am 39 weeks tomorrow! When is your due date?
I have thought about trying to induce baby in different ways but I know that by using these methods baby has to be literally ready to arrive for them to work, So I cant see anything happening for me even if I try, i think baby is too happy in there! Sad
I read somewhere that if you pinch and massage the webbing in between your thumb and forefinger (its an accupressure point that can stimulate contractions) for about 30 secs every 2-3 mins labour can start. I thought thats easy enough, so I most of yesterday I was trying it. Needless to say I am still sitting here far to comfortably to be in any kind of labour. Grrr!

Laughing

Im 39 weeks today! and the size of a semi detached house no less Exclamation

Its amazing how quick the rest of the nine months goes and these last few days drag out sooooooo much init! Awful. But there you go.

After I put my 3 year old to bed last night I even had a lovely hot bath and did squats in front of the mirror as its supposed to move your bubs into the right position. Thank goodness there isnt a camera in my bedroom thats all I can say. Not a pretty site. Shocked

Castor oil crosses the placental barrier and has the same effect on the baby as it does on you.... causing baby to have a bowel movement in the womb (meconium passage).

Please research the risks before attempting to self-induce (google: "castor oil meconium"). There are plenty of natural SAFE ways to encourage labour, but baby will not come out if he/she's not ready.

Thanks Anne for posting that! Castor Oil has been discouraged as a method of self induction by the ACOG (am. Colelge of Obstetrics and Gynecology) and American Council of Nurse Midwives. Black Cohosh is also under suspiscion for causing neuralogical problems in newborns.

Here are the methods reccommended by my midwife when I was past 38 weeks:

Nipple Stimulation

Reflexology-rub the interior portion of your ankles in a clockwise motion (better yet have a partner do so, as most term women can no longer reach their ankles)

Sexual relations-Sperm can help promote thinning and ripening of the cervix

Evening primrose oil Taken both orally or internally, but you have to break open the capsule and rub the oil on your cervix-again, a very ackward process fro the larger pregnant lady!

Raspberry leaf tea

Walking, but not enough to make you exhausted

Squatting and pelvic tilts

Sitting on Exercise ball

I hope these things work for you. The best thing that works, time and patience! Good luck

My acupressure points are getting a little sore I do have to say! Laughing

Well done for all your walking today, im planning some strolling myself tomorrow, or should I say waddling!!!

Ive got a little boy called Harri who turned 3 on 25th May! Its my dads birthday on tuesday! strange but true. My boys will have the same age gap as yours!

Do you know what your having this time? Ooooh its so exciting! I know im having another little boy as we had a bit of a scare early on, they thought he might have downs so I had a CVS and all was clear, but they do say they cant tell 100% and to let them know the outcome, so ive been worrying ever since! Think thats why im so desperate to hold him in my arms and make sure he is all ok you know.

Chelmsford is good for shopping and your not far from me are you! Wow, I didnt think id find anyone near me on here.

Nice to meet you chick! Very
Happy xx

*amesbubs* Lucas was 3 on the 10th May!!!
We dont know what we are having, our hospital won't tell us. All the midwives think I have another boy though going by the heartbeat and things but we'll see hopefully not long to find out!!
It must hard having those problems earlier in your pregnancy, I can imagine how you have been worrying about it too. Have they kept a closer eye on you throughout your pregnancy? Or were they happy after the CVS? I am sure you and your new little boy will be just fine! Smile oh and nice to meet you too! Smile

*mamaTT* Sure seems to be alot of birthdays on tuesday! As long as this baby isnt born then I will be ok. I am soooo paranoid of missing his b-day! I know he will be fine about it because we have talked about the fact it might happen all the way through this pregnancy, and he said he would be more than happy to share his day! Its just me that will be heartbroken! Sad plus I'll miss the cake! Wink

*silly chick* Is Nipple stimulation really recommended as a safe way to naturally induce?? I have read lots of things telling you not to try it because it can cause overly long and strong contractions if not done 100% properly. Which could lead to over exhaustion during labour and fetal distress!

That is the suggestion given me by my midwives. I also know it can help a stalled labor. I think the contractioins brought on by nipple stimulation are probably not as strong as those brought on by Pitocin and Cytotec. Other than that I really don't know. It's worth looking into.

I WENT INTO LABOUR FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!!!

At about 5pm and had an emergency c-section at 5.19am Sat 28th July!!!!

Due to the fact they were worried about my scar rupturing as my contractions were very painful around that area.

GIRLS!!! Ive got a beautiful baby boy called Frankie!!! He weighed 8lb 13, exactly the same as my other son but he was two weeks over and Frankie was a week early.

Im so happy, over the moon and besotted with my new baby boy its untrue, and my other son Harri is being so good and im so proud of him, im really happy ladies!!!! Obviously baby blues not kicked in yet! haha, hopefully fingers crossed they wont.

Got sent home from hospital yesterday, still very sore, and I cant stop doing things and I know I should rest but its very hard.

Also tried to breast feed to no avail and my milks come in today, ive got breasts like watermelons made of rock and they are killing me!!!! Midwife said strap them up til they go down and to expect a fever tonight! Great.

Anyway how are you doing???????

much love to all xx

Thank you babe! I am really happy, still in a bit of pain but really happy.

Well hun I wouldnt recommend it but i had a massive row with my partner and a few hours later it all started! I do think that it all kicked off tho from taking that castor oil BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT!!! Horrible stuff and I was so ill with it, I thought i did my research but I was only reading the good aspects of it and ive found out that there are so many bad points to it its just not worth it.

Good luck honey and keep me posted, if I can work it out ill try and get a piccy of my beautiful boys on here.

Sending you lots of going into labour vibes ok!!! xxxx Wink
