Hi,

Recently my husband and I planned to try for a baby and took some basic tests and went for a doctor's consultation just to get advised on the topic in general.

As per my ultrasound report, my ovaries showed features of PCOS.
It seems to have developed in the past 2 years only. In my 4 years of married life, I've gained and lost weight a number of times.
I have had irregular periods in the past, but was told its nothing to worry I have difficulty conceiving in a later stage.
And lately I have not had much deviation from dates too!!

The doctor has suggested typical dates to try but has also mentioned not to put high hopes to conceive right away. This is making me a bit nervous...
Especially after reading stuff on the net!!

Anyone who's had similar symptoms and has had a baby without any medication, please tell me its not such a big deal.

I am starting a healthy diet regime to attain healthy weight and avoid certain complications.

Let me know if there's anything else I should do to make things easier....

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tanoshii,

I understand your concerns. Acutally, I have been married to my husband for 3 years and 10 months...will be 4 in September. We have tried to conceive about a year after being married and continously had disappointing results. So we tried for 2 1/2 years.

I too would have irregular periods...even miss 4 to 6 cycles out of the year. I was too diagnosed with ovarian cysts and recently in November 2006 was told that I had PCOS. My doctor told me that it is not impossible to conveive, but much harder since I was only ovulating half of the year compared to other women. I was supposed to get more testing done in November, but had to go away on business. and made my appointments for testing in December, but then got my period. So the testing was put off for January.

I was so upset that I was not going to be able to have a baby that I gave up and my husband and I didn't try anymore, of course we still had sex...but didn't get my hopes up when I would miss my period.
Well wouldn't you know it...in January I found out I was pregnant.

There is still hope sweety....trust me, I know. It's still unbelievable to me that I am actually going to have a baby in another month and a half.

Do you have to get shots for the cysts or do they go away by themselves?

Puncturing Cysts!!
Hi Brina,

Thanks for your reply..belated wishes on the Motherhood experience!!

I've had symptoms for this only for the past 2.5 years or so....
When I found out 2 years ago, the doctor suggested I go through a laparoscopy and get the cysts punctured and go for a baby right away.

But at that time we were not prepared for such a big commitment and after consulting few more gynics decided we'll wait for a couple of years and then as they suggested first try and then if trouble poses, go in for a treatment.

Mine was really not PCOS when we found out about it. The ovaries had similar features but not as bad. So never needed to disturb the cysts.
But not I've been asked to do that if I do not conceive within a reasonable time.

What about you? Had to get them removed from time to time?
Did you undergo any kind of treatment for the same?

Also wanted to know....does weight fluctuation have anything to do with it?
Cos the first time I had symptoms for this...like really delayed PMS, I started gaining weight...Was going thru a rough patch too...so really never bothered to check about the weight gain.

When I found out my doctor said that it usually starts at around puberty and progressivly gets worse. However, did your doctor do blood work to find out what your testostorone (spelling) level is. My boyfriend bought me a book called Living with PCOS

I have read that eating healthy, and exercise helps (natural ways)

Clomid or metamorphine can also help with pregnancy.

After having unprotected sex with my partener for 4 years I became pregnant naturally, but lost the baby early on. I know that when you are pregnant you have to take extra steps so that you don't miscarry. In every case but mostly with PCOS.

I am going on Metamorphine in a few months so that we can try again.

Smile Good luck

I have had blood tests done in the past to detect the reason for the irregular cycles, but there wasn't anything abnormal about it. They mostly found estrogen level fluctuations. But despite that I would have normal cycles for half a year, that too without drugs.

As of now I've been advised to take vitamin/iron combo pills...they've helped me in the past too to regulate a decent cycle.

But for now...to try for a baby...still keeping my fingers crossed!!

Confused
