But I would say "Fortunately the child won't remember". Not unfortunately. I would think it is a blessing this kid isn't going to remember the event.

That is so disgusting and sad! Unfortunately, I believe the child would remember something as traumatizing as that. I'm 23 years old and I can still remember some bad things that happened when I was that age. By bad things, I mean like my parents spanking me, or I remember my dad whipped me with a belt after I'd misbehaved at my Grandma's house. I also remember good things as well, like moving into our house in the "big city" and meeting my best friend (yes, we were two when we met!). But I think kids tend to remember the bad things over the good.
