I am a 36 year old female with a strong family history of breast cancer(Mom, grandma, aunt)
I have had two lumps removed over the last 5 years which have proved to be nothing, thank god.
the most recent pathology report reads as follows:
1. fibroadenoma
2. Associated intraductal hyperplasia
I know that #1 is nothing to worry about. however, what is #2? I have never heard of that before. I have to admit, I did not wait for my doctor to call me with the results. I went to the hosp and got the results myself (results of core needle biopsy)
I had the biopsy almost three weeks ago. I have called my dr. office twice now. The nurse gets a little snotty with me and says "Don't call us we will call you" they just don't understand that when you are waiting and have such a big family history of cancer one tends to worry a little.
So should I be concerned or just relax and not even worry if the gy ever calls me back?
thanks.

Some of these conditions, such as intraductal hyperplasia with lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), are microscopic risk factors that can indicate that a woman is at increased risk of developing breast cancer. As you have family history of breast cancer that increases the risk .
Both these conditions are precancerous so a close follow up by regular Medical examination may be helpful in your case.
Regular medical examination will also be reassuring for you.
