Hey all, I have been in pain for the last
2 years and I am only 19! About 2 years
ago when this all started I had a pretty
severe injury to my head, jaw and neck. I
started going to a Chiropractor, doctor,
and even an allergist for sinus pressure.
I have been to 3 diff chiropractors, 2
dentists and my doctor multiple times. I
was diagnosed with TMJ, whiplash and a
reversed cervical curve. My jaw pops every
time I chew, I feel like I am in a fog, My
ears sometimes get randomly clogged, I get
sharp shooting pains in my temples,
forehead, eyebrow, right next to my eye,
my ears and all over the back and
sometimes top of my head. I also have
pretty bad tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
when I am in a quiet room or trying to
sleep. My neck feels tight, achy and sore
all the time. Even when I get 9+ hours of
sleep, I wake up feeling like I had slept
for like 2 hours. I wear a night guard at
night and it dosent seem to be helping.
Every time I roll my neck I hear cracking
and popping. I also have a whole bunch of
little painless bumps deep in my neck
along my spine, and one larger soft one.
(My chiropractor said that it was tissue,
my doctor said they were tendons) This has
been slowly getting worse over the past
two years and I have no idea what to do. I
ruled out sinusitis with a CT scan of my
sinuses, so it is not allergy related.
Should I have an MRI done of my neck and
head to rule out really bad stuff? Also to
see if there was any tissue damage? All my
doctors say that TMJ is causing a lot of
these symptoms. The funny thing is, my jaw
is the least of my problems at the moment,
even though it aches, and pops from time
to time, but all the other symptoms are
more common than jaw symptoms. for the
first 3-4 months after the injury i had
severe headaches EVERY DAY!! but for the
last year and 5 months i have only had 4-5
minor headaches. Im so confused...barley
any headaches!?. Could all of this pain
be muscle tension related? Any advice
would be much
appreciated

I'm also going to suggest that you have
your neck x-rayed, CT Scan, MRI or
something if they haven't already done so.
Your neck shouldn't be popping that
easily. You might have a slipped or
injured disc along with TMJ. Your muscles
sound like they are in spasms. If the
doctors you have seen so far aren't
helping you, keep searching for someone
who will.
God bless...

wow thanks for the response. yes i think
that i may need help finding the
neuromuscular dentist. I agree with
catswold with the fact that my neck
shouldnt be popping like this, one
chiropractor said it is because I am in
the middle of getting my curve back. I
have had 2 xrays done on my neck and it
came up with a reversed cervical curve
both times, wouldnt x-rays show if i have
a slipped or injured disk? I have had many
neurological tests preformed by a physical
therepast and he said i looked good, but
I am still in pain. He also said that
after testing me, he could tell that most
of my problems are coming from muscles
obstructing the nerves in my C1. I do
grind my teeth at night which means the
muscles in my head, jaw, and neck never
get a break. I am wondering how much of
this can be linked to posture as well. .
the muscle spasms in my head have stopped
(hope im not going to jinx it) but the
shooting head, forehead pains are still
occuring (however they seem to be less
frequent). I am constantly changing
doctors and the progress is going very
very slow, but it seems as if i may be
getting better. Maybe wishful thinking.
The good news is, i got my first good
nights sleep in like a year last night. I
woke up feeling like a completly different
person. i apreciate all the help! i just
want to be free of pain for just one day!

the Reverse Curve Posted: 07-30-07 12:34pm
Hi!!!!The Reverse curve..... IS the
problem.. it puts pressure on your jaws. I
have it too, the reverse curve throws the
head into a forward position, and that
puts force on the jaws. And if C1(Atlas)
is crooked.. it can actually shift the
jaws. c1 can give you alot of neurological
problems, and it is kind of serious. Now
if i were you. i would continue on with
the chiropracter and maybe try what dyan
says also. I would stay with a chiro if
your neck is that bad. A person with a
neck That bad can not ever fix the jaw
without addressing the neck also. so you
are on the right track. the neck and the
jaws are 1/4 inch away from each other. if
you have any questions about necks, dont
be shy i do know alot about that end of
it.Love cindy

95030. Thanks grassy, I understand
completely what you are saying, and it
feels like that is the problem. The
reversed curve is actually at my C5, but
my new physical therepist says that my c1
is giving me all the problems. How is
everyone's issues doing? I hope you are
all dong better!

well that is what i am told too. That the
reverse curve in the middle of our necks,
is what makes the Atlas give(c1) that
atlas is a very important bone, it holds
your head on. it also is important because
it is in line with the brain stem, and
alot of nerves go in and out of that
general area. then somehow(c1)can
influence the jaws also.so if a person has
an atlas that is crooked, it causes a BIG
bunch of problems... and i think we are
talking about a very tiny bit of
misalignment, maybe even less than 1/8
inch. i go to my chiropracter 3 times a
week for years, so after all this time i
can actuall TELL what i am feeling and
what is going on, but for years i couldnt
tell the difference it really FELT like my
jaw. but on the other hand, the atlas is
so close to the jaw, i guess it doesnt
really matter.jaw hurts. i keep looking
into it, to see if i can find a fix. I
know alot of folks with tmj that have a
reverse curve. alot...so i think that
reverse curve is a key part of the whole
overall problem.. at least half of it.
