Yes, once you have HPV, you will probably have it for life unless they come out with a cure for it anytime in our lifetime, or unless your body fights it off eventually.
They actually came out with an HPV vaccine for girls not too long ago since HPV is more serious for women because it can cause cervical cancer. There is currently no vaccine for men.
Some people do seem to fight off the virus in time, but I would not really count on that happening either.
That means you will have to explain it to future partners and be careful. You can avoid sex if you have a breakout and always use a condom, but that's certainly not a guarantee that your partner won't get it.
HPV is pretty common though. It does not mean your life is over or that you can never have sex again.
