Recently I was diagnosed with Bipolar, Impulse Control, Disorder, Panic Disorder & Social Phobia. My first medications I received were 1000mg Depakote ER at PM & Klonopin 0.5mg twice daily. The Depakote did absolutely nothing but make me worse, in means of hostility, increased brain racing & I could not stop moving or doing things from wake to sleep. The Klonopin never once stopped my attacks & still doesnt.

I was then switched to .5mg Risperdal twice daily & continuing the Klonopin twice daily. Again had absolutely no effect.

Then I was tried on 100mg Seroquel in the AM, 200mg Seroquel PM & continuing the twice daily .5mg Klonopin. The first few days on the Seroquel it made my heart race & occasional flutter to the point wondering if I was gonna drop. After it went away the doctor had me take an extra 100mg of Seroquel in the afternoon. This left me feeling blah all the time and snapping easy.

Today I saw the doctor again and he is trying me on 15mg of Zyprexa at PM and continuing the twice daily Klonopin. Obviously I have not yet tried the Zyprexa but was curious as to what your recommendations would be based on the info I have given. This switching medicine "wait 2-3wks for it to work " is killing me and making me worse off than I was. Also to note which I have informed my doc as well, that several years ago I was off work for 3 years due to a severe back injury and was on alot of meds as you can imagine. Ever since then medication just does not affect me like normal people. Not joking but to the extent of 3 or 4 Vicodin ES 1000mg for a pulled tooth or something of the like.

Sorry for the long post but, It feels good to get some things out and again with the given information what would you suggest be more in my alley. I just feel like my doc is not listening to me. Any advice, suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Rick

I can't help with a lot of this but you should learn cbt for the panic and anxiety. It works great and gave me my life back. You really have to have self-discipline to get the most out of cbt but if you do it will eliminate your panic attacks. Join a group or read the book by sam obitz and start doing the tea form exercise everyday. I was able to eliminate my panic attacks and depression thanks to the exercises and I still do the tea form daily. They really work if you work them Smile

Thank you for a response. I intended to ask the doctor the questions but I guess I could not figure out where to post it. As far as cbt I have not heard the abbreviation until I googled it. I am currently seeinf a psych or therapist once a week. I fear socializing so joining a group is a no go and I have absolutely no income so buying books is not up my alley. If you could explain what is this tea exercise.

Rick, check out the book by sam obitz from your library for free then and see if it resonates with you. It outlines the tea form better than I can but in genberal you take the thoughts you are having that cause anxiety and panic attacks and identify the thinking errors you are making and then counter them with more objective or accurate thoughts. I hope this makes sense but if not let me know and I'll take another stab at it Laughing

Bipolar- Who Understands
Well I am 30 and have Bipolar- I am always stressed out because of the racing thoughts. Not enough time in the day to do half the stuff I think Of. One Minute I will be talking away talking about this then something else. I get aggravated easy or over nothing and just wanna snap. I found out I was taking Lithium and 150mg of serquel at night because the whole 300 mgs had terrible side effects- I dont see how someone could take that daytime. No antideppressant. I have taking wellbutrin, xprexa, zoloft etc. By the way xprexa is expensive with no insurance. I just started Paxil, lithium, and Nirvam (XANAX)1mg 3 times day for anxiety- Nirvam is great but makes you tired. I think its working. I also have back problems and take percocet, muscle relaxers, inflammatory. It sucks having to take so many meds to be able to function. I think you just have to try meds till it works. Good Luck Rebekkah

Reb, that's great that you have found something that is working for you even if it requires you to take so many meds. Some bi-polars never find anything that works Confused
