Do ghosts/entities/whatever-existentialist-fo rm-life-forces-take-after-they-pass-this-l ife-exist?
__________________________________________ ________________

I believe so.

*Sung to the Brady Bunch tune*

Here's a story...'bout a girl and her house. She was living in a two bedroom home...she was at home, along with her dogs...oh they were all alone.

(Doo doo doo)

Okay, I can't keep doing that, but it would've been good. I want you to know how very serious I am.

So, I came home and all my dogs (we had five at the time) were around me. I was on the computer. The bathroom is directly above the living room, where my computer is. There is a hallway behind me that goes from upstairs to the basement. There is one window in the bathroom, and it looks out upon a concrete driveway with no fire escape, no ledges, nothing. That's important.

I got home, went wee wee. I noticed that my thoughtful and kind boyfriend had put the screen window in the bathroom. We have a very old home, and the storm windows and screens have to be removed/replaced during the seasons. I noticed our cat laying in the newly venilhated window.

I came downstairs. Two hours pass, without incident. No dogs barking, no odd sounds, nothing.

Boyfriend comes home. He goes wee wee. "Honey?" he asked. "Yes?" "Did you change the window in the bathroom?" I thought he was being facetious, like 'gimme a compliment here I changed the window like you wanted'. I said, "Thank you!!!" And he goes, "No, did you change the window?" His voice was urgent.

I (and I tell you I get goosebumps just recounting this story) ran upstairs, and goddangitall, the frickin' storm window was in that bathroom window.

(I just turned on the lights in my house.)

He thought I was playing a practical joke. Let me tell you, those storm windows are huge and there's no way I would carry it down from the attic and lift it in the window just for a practical joke.

We just looked at each other for a moment.

We searched the house.

I grabbed the nearest weapon-the vaccuum attachments. Yeah, laugh.

And I'll be incredibly doggoned again, that screen was in the basement.

*Birch shivers*

There is absolutely no logical explanation. I have to assume it is illogical. I have to assume some other entity did it.

We've had other things happen in the house, too, but nothing like this. Lights have turned on and off, doors get unlocked, heck, a lightbulb unscrewed itself and shattered. But there is something about the idea that behind me, in that hallway between the upstairs and basement, that screen had to go. And the window had to get from the attic, where he put it, to the bathroom. Eee....

Shocked Laughing what were you planning to do with them exactly? Or had you not thought that out? (just curious, really... I probably would have lost my head entirely and grabbed a shoe)

Whomever is in your home, its obvious is not there to harm you. Otherwise, something would have occured way before now. As for the light bulbs unscrewing, and light s being turned on and off, this is "jokes" to them. As for hte window being replaced with a storm windo w taken from the attic or basement and installed.....sound like a pretty good handyman to me, and I'd love to keep them around .....even if I can't see them! Too many skeptical people who dare not believe in ghost or afterlife or the unexplained..............they are sure missing out. I find it facinating and would consider you a lucky girl to have the presence of someone from a previous life among you. Yes, the dogs can see them and hear them. I don't give a rats ass what people say about what I believe in........my grandmother lived in a house where the box fan kept getting put into another room and turned on low........she lived alone..............somone oe something was taking hte fan and moving it to the living room near my grandfathers recliner on almost a daily basis....and turning it on. So, yes I believe......my grandmothers little dog will go off on tangents as if he sees onsome and starts barking and howling at it.....sometimes I wonder if its my Grandfathers soul! I think its AWESOME!

the dogs never bark at him
hes not real

oi, this thread really scares me, i hate death.

i remember right after my uncle died i was sleeping in my bedroom and i had a dream about him (it wasnt even a bad dream) and i woke up in tears (terrified) and i was laying there in the dark and i wanted to get up and go into my moms room (how lame does that sound?) because i didn't want to be alone and be thinking about it and i got up and opened my bedroom door and could not go out into the hall way and i covered myself with my blankets over my head because i was afraid to look into the hallway, i was afraid of what i'd see, i couldn't even get back up to close the door, i laid there crying my eyes out until i heard my mom up in the morning getting ready for work and turning lights on in the hall and living room and i got up and went in to her and cried some more lol

that has nothing to do with ghosts i don't think, but it was really scary. i think it was just because he had just died, he died in our bathroom (but was brought back) and it was just a bad experience over all. yuck, im sure mandi remembers, i texted her at 3 in the morning while hiding under my covers lol

i sound stupid.

i think having someone die in the home would be traumatic for anyone. i get the feeling the death wasn't totally natural causes maybe?? even so, it's hard to have it happen so close to you like that. i've never had an actual supernatural experience that i'm sure of. the closest thing i can think of was when i was a teenager, we went to a ceremony called a shake tent. the odd thing was it was done indoors, in a community hall, with the windows blacked out and all the lights off. that is not, from what i understand since then, the normal way of doing this ceremony. it's a traditional dakota ceremony and it was being held for a sick old lady. apparently the week before it had been held there for a boy who had committed suicide and there were some really scary things that happened to people during that ceremony.

anyway, the medicine man gets tied up and put in a small tent. normally, this tent would be outdoors and the poles would be big logs driven deep into the ground. that is what makes it remarkable when the tent begins to shake violently from the power of the spirits the shaman is calling on. but the thing we went to you couldn't see anything, it was pitch black and all you could hear is the bells and rattles on the tent shaking. there was the lady on her stretcher bed and a drum group at one end of the hall and i remember looking in that direction and seeing what looked like a lightning storm off in the distance. it was really creepy. and when the medicine man called all these spirits to come you could hear someones footsteps running in between you and the person next to you, you could even feel the wind from it. ooh i'm totally getting creeped just remembering it. and the voices were coming from everywhere. it would be far off in the distance one second and right in your ear the next. they were all different voices and speaking different languages. my sister and i were there and we both have blond hair and blue eyes and there was supposedly an eagle/trickster spirit there that was the only one who spoke english and it said, right near my ear, that his two blond girlfriends were "here tonight". it was the strangest experience i've ever had in my life. if they faked everything, my hat is off to them because, holy, what a show. i can't even say how long it lasted. my sister feels exactly how i do about it. i can't explain what we heard and felt unless it was a reaaally elaborate scam. the thing is no one was making any money off of it and it was done on the reserve in their bingo hall. Confused

I am undecided. I guess for me I'll believe it when I see it.
Thing is I'm a bit sceptical of it all because I'm a huge fan of Derren Brown. He's like some sort of psychological illusionist, and in his programs he demonstrates how the mind can trick you into believe that something is there etc, like on one of his programs he makes a girl see loads of monsters and creepy things and she feels them touch her, but in reality she is standing alone and he is talking to her, making her see these things. He also did a seance, and made loads of people choose one dead girl from a group of photos to 'contact' using ouija board, ah it's just so good. Really scary though. It turns out he has just influenced them all to demonstrate how mediums work, and it turns out that the dead girl was actually an actress who was alive and waiting to meet them all after the show.
I went to see his live show in April, and he made a table levitate. I dunno how he did that.
So I dunno if I believe lol

ohhh. you know what i can't stand? those people who claim to be able to contact your loved ones on the "other side". like the ones they always have on talk shows. that scary looking woman, sylvia brown or something like that. and they say things like, "uh i'm getting the letter a....no, b....c?....d, yeah d!!" and the person in the audience starts balling and says "i had a dog that died and it's name started with D!!!!" LOL.

you know what i mean?? ugh so annoying. they are taking advantage of people's grief and need to believe. and they're so vague and fake too.

That's like what Derren does, but he does it to demonstrate how fake it is and that it can be done to anyone who is susceptible enough. He basically just feeds off the information they are already giving him, but they don't notice they are because they're so enthralled lol.
Maybe I do believe in spirits/ghosts, although I have never seen one, but I don't believe in mediums and psychics etc.

I don't believe ghosts are the spirits of dead people, I believe they are caused by energy left by human events in that place, usually traumatic ones.

The reason I don't believe ghosts are dead people's spirits is because I believe that when you die, you have no memory of this world or the people in it, even your loved ones. I don't think anyone could 'rest in peace' if they could see their loved ones getting ill, having accidents etc. I think you just forget, just like we have no memory of before we were born and it is only when you are reunited with your loved ones after they die that you remember again. That's my theory anyway Smile

Okay, well, at that point I really thought someone was in the house. Why they would go out of their way to get the window from the attic and put the screen in the basement I hadn't worked out yet, but safety first. And man, swung right, those things could take out an eye! Right? Laughing

Yeah, I'm as skeptical as they get about this stuff, but this particular experience was no mind trick. We still can't quite get our heads around it. And a few days later he changed the window out again.

Those psychics and all that crap...I'm pretty sure their audiences are planted.

In one of her books, she talks about fake psychics...and says (to paraphrase) 'if someone claims to be psychic and they charge you for their services they are not legit'. She says more about how she would never use her gift for financial gain. Confused Except book deals and appearances, those are okay apparently. I guess she asked her "spirit guide" Francine if that was alright. Wink

Yes, I certainly don't get a feeling of harm or concern. I was quite freaked out for awhile, and I'm convinced there's something in the attic, but I'm not really worried.

We've "asked" our friend to do some useful home maintainance, but nothing yet. Very

I have a couple of friends who dabble in wicca/chistina-wicca.

One of our favorite things to do is flash cards, color/shape guessing, and "energy balls". I don't know if I believe any of it, but it is entertaining.

We sometimes just think the color in our head and have the other person guess. I'm rather good at getting other people to guess my color right, and I'm also unusually good at guessing shapes on cards. We're talking enough of a percentage of success that statistically it's not "luck". I'm also supposedly good at making very "heavy" energy balls.

Once, we all sat around with our hands pointed to the middle of a table and thought cold thoughts, and tested it after a few minutes. I must say it really did feel cold, and I'm a non-believer lol.

So my friend Bill (one of the above mentioned friends) had a neat altar in the house we rented together. There was a chalice on a shelf pushed up against the wall, far away from the edges. One day, it fell off the shelf and shattered... We also once had water falling from the floor beneath his altar (his room is on the second floor) in the livingroom. It wasn't raining, otherwise it would have made sense, it's an old house. We heard the water splash down from the ceiling and hit the floor, so we looked at each other and went "What the heck was that?" We went over to investigate... no water. None upstairs either... It literally sounded like a bucket or large glass of water had been dumped from the ceiling to the floor.

I also swear I saw ball lightening once.
