just go to get some books you always wanted to read, and sat down in a cafe, got yourselve a latte, open your brand new books... if u get lucky, some girls might approach you well, anyway, don't put any expectation, jus treat it as a me& myself time.. and surf the net at starbucks or some place like tat...
when you get usual to the environment, you can definitely speak to someone seat beside you on the tram/buses/tube. sit down with someone and have a meal by sharing a table...
easiest people to talk to is people in the 'servicing line' waitress, promoters etc. ask for specials, free gift, just casual chat, 'how long you've worked here, am new to the town,. wil be starting my college on ?? etc... there're plenty of ways to make frens from all backgrounds and all ages...
well, if u r not picky on friends.. for me, i really enjoy talking and making friends with ppl from all sort of backgrounds, culture, ages...

When you are at a college or University, there are many people in attendance.

You would have to actively avoid people, in order not to meet them.

So, do not run out the door back to your games console.

1) listen to the people about you.
2) i think you're either older than you're saying or the birthdate on your profile is wrong (i'm weird i look at the profiles) because it' says 1978 and last i checked that would make you 30.

I have to agree with the "go outside" statement, go swimming, join a gym, go to the library.

Sitting inside by yourself will only make you get depressed about your situation, the more time you spend outside the more chance there is to find friends/people to chat too.
