Steriod Injections
Posted: 07-21-07 04:55am

I've now got my appointment to go and have my steriod injections in my lower back ... I've read the leaflet that came in the post today .. and now I'm getting anxious ... seems I'm to be awake whilst they do it, I'll be given a local anesetic, and the treatment performed under an Xray.. they also state that they will inject a dye into the nerves, so it's clear on the screen where to inject.. they didn't specify if this dye is the same used in a Mylogram, is it the same? I'm the type of person that dosn't cry in public, but today I feel really low, Crying
or Very sad I think its cos I'm worrying to much. Crying
or Very sad

Angie-

Do not fret too much over this. If you are super nervous, can you ask for conscious sedation? I don't know if they will do iit where you are, but here it is quite routine. It can be an uncomfortable procedure. I am pretty sure that the dye they use is the same or similar to that of a myelogram. I hope this little procedure does the trick for you!

*fingers crossed*

Thanks for the kind words, I go in tomorrow morning, I'm nervous cos I've a phobia with needles .... but as long as I don't see them, I think I'll be alright ... Mike has been super-dooper with me, and he's asked about his mates who he know that has had this done, apparently I will be sedated, so I'll be wooozy - but awake - I can handle that, then I'm numbed from the waist down whilst they inject, I've had my cry, and got it out of my system, I think that's why I'm in a good mood today - 'see 10 things to see a smile on the volunteers forum' I know now that I was being daft, and thanks that you'll keep your fingers crossed, but I need to know how you can type like that, I've tried it and everything gets spelt wrongly Laughing Razz
cheers mate - you truley are a good souce of encouragement..

Hi Sillyachick

It hurt Mad ...... and you know I don't cry in public .. well I wept like a baby. Crying
or Very sad Embarassed
They only gave me a local anesethic in the area, then stuck 3 needles in one side of my back then did the other side - no dye - and no seditive ... my back is so tender anyway - so I felt everything, I laughed hysterically and cried at the same time, which was my nerves, I told them I was phobic with needles, they said I wouldn't see them ... I dunno what was worse, not seeing them for real, or my own imagination !!
Glad it's all over, and I would do it again knowing what to expect next time, my back is feeling good ... I got back earlier from hospital, started posting ... then the anesetic wore off ... so I've been layed up for most of the night ... but I'm back in full force now .. try n stop me ... Laughing
Thanks for your help with this - and see you in the no smoking forum now - next conquer to win !!

Ice Ice Ice Ginger! It will help with the pain. You can expect a period of time when you will hate your doctor for about the next 12-24 hours. Then the steroid will kick in and should be making you feel tons better! Have they prescribed Physical therapy? We usually start our patients on it 2 days after their injection.

Hi sillyachick - are you called Chick for short

I did the Ice thing - and I'm gonna start my Yoga back up again .. Lee mentioned it to me in a PMS. The General NHS physios over here are umm crap !!
I've a military fitness guy at work, that said he'll help me, cos he said he didn't want me to 'lock up', so he'll monitor my progress.
I'm quite subtle, and that helps, I'm more mobile than most poor people that's suffering with back trouble.
Gonna start it Monday, and do it twice a week for starters.
cheers for your help once again ... you guys are really supportive.
