i just started my second shot and i've
noticed that my bladder has shrunk to the
size of a golf ball. and i don't really
recall that happening during the first
shot. i read somewhere that a side effect
is fluid retention. but my question is has
anyone had this happen to them and how
long does this last? running for the
nearest restroom every half and hour or
less is not cool at all.

That was not a side effect for me.
Other side effects I did have: weight
gain, lethargy, absolutely no libido, no
menses (not necessarily a bad thing),
migraine headaches around the time the
shot wore off.
I got the heck off that crap as soon as I
figured it all out.

so you didn't like the depo? doesn't the
shot get rid of your period completely? I
dont think i could deal with that, I love
getting my "period", I dont get so
paranoid..I think the pill is best for me,
but when I become older I might become
interested in an IUD..but I dunno what the
cost of those would be...they are just as
effective as the pill correct?
anyone whos been on depo or any other form
of shot for b.c. and tried the pill, which
did you like better..the shot or the pill

Worrywart, yes women on the shot do often
lose their period. However, other women
have a lot of bleeding, especially when
starting or stopping the shot. I did not
have a period for about five years when I
was on the shot.
I would never recommend the shot to
anyone. Its has some serious side effects
and may even cause irreversible damage.
The FDA does not recommend the shot for
teens or young women. They also do not
recommend that women stay on the shot for
longer than two years.

IUD's are actually more effective than the
pill.... they are pretty much foolproof.
Very very very effective. Like,
statistically as effective as getting your
tubes tied.
However, the mirena IUD (progesterone) is
known to lessen periods too... I never got
a period from the day I got my iud in. So
if you don't want that, don't get the
mirena. The copper iud may worsen your
periods at first but then I think they
generally stay pretty normal. Why wait
until you are older? It is becoming a lot
more common for IUD's to be given to young
women, it is perfectly safe. And they
cost a lot right away (if your insurance
doesn't cover it, mine didn't) like
$400-$600 for the prescription for the iud
and the procedure to put it in. But when
you think about it, that's really cheap
because it's a one time cost that you
never have to pay again for 5 years (for
the mirena) or 10-12 years (for the copper
one). A lot cheaper than the pill, when
you do the math.
Anyway, IUD's can have downsides too, I
just wanted to give you some info because
you seemed interested. But it's the pill
for me, and I won't even think about
getting the shot. Ouch.

well, i'm 20 now and currently on yaz...so
$25 a month is very affordable for me..I'm
not really sure how to go about getting an
IUD..i wouldn't want my parents to know or
be invovled...I'm not sure they know I'm
sexually active, the "reason" as far as
they know that i went on the pill was for
my irregular periods...they were
ridiculously irregular to a point to where
I'd be stressed out of my mind waiting for
when I was using condoms alone..one month
for it to be 28 days (which usually its
between 28 and 32 days) it was supposed to
come the 18th..it didn't come until the
28th...I had talked to my mom about it the
previous month about it being so
irregular, right after that month we both
timed it and she said I should expect it
the 18th or 19th..so, as you can imagine I
was pretty freaked out..after that I made
an appointment and went on the pill...and
I still freak out...but I'm not sure I can
afford the IUD...i'm thinking about just
using a spermacide as a back up..hoping it
doesn't cause any irritation

Honestly, a pill alone is enough
protection... and with a condom, it's
almost perfect.

I have been on depo for almost 5 yearsl
now...since I was 17. I take a break
after 2 years for a year, then go back
on..and repeat.
Symptoms I got were breasts tenderness in
the first 3 weeks...loss of period
symptoms, slight weight gain.
Everyone is different...When i got my
first shop, i lost my sexual desire. Took
a break after 2 years..got my period after
6months, was irregular for 4..regular for
2...and went back onto the shot. My
sexual desire didn't change after that
shot..it was even better!
breasts got tender...and was just a cry
baby for a while haha.
IMO...if you don't think you'd remember
the pill..and don't want a child for a
lonnnggg time...definatly try out the
shot. I know girls that forget their pill
for one day..and get pregnant. Also take
a calcium supplement..as depo has shown to
increase the chance of bone loss in
women...
