I know in an ideal world no-one should hit another person but it's drummed into most of us that it is especially wrong for a man to hit a woman. Now, my husband has never ever laid a hand on me in anger but I have said to him that if I was ever REALLY pushing him or physically attacking him then I would understand if he physically retaliated. I think you can only push a person so far and a man should not suffer just because of a 'mustn't hit ladies' rule. So what do you think? Why is there a double standard when it comes to violence against men and women? If a jilted female slaps her cad of a lover across the face the attitude is "good for you girl!" but if a man in the same position slapped the girl then it's "what a b*stard!". NB/ I really must make it clear that my husband has never hit me and I don't think he ever will, he's lovely

if a woman is psyically attacking a man...like...really then he has the right to restrain her but its different when there is a girl and the man is mad...and he punches her in the head

I think that when a woman hits a man she makes it fair game.. the first punch from a woman is saying "beat the crap out of me i asked for it..." but the same goes if a man hits a woman first he asked for it... that's my opinion...

well with my first husband he use to abuse me and i was scared to death but i think that if it happened to me know i am more emotional stable where i would fight back and whoop some a@s

I don't think a woman has the right to hit a man and I don't think a man has a right to hit a woman. I do believe if a woman is pounding the daylights out of a man he should have the right to hold her (not hurt her) so until she is able to calm down, or until the police can intervene.

And so you should! There are very few circumstances that I think a man can/should hit a woman. Never in a disagreement. If my wife attacked me (not the good kind) with a knife or something- then ya, I'd lay into her. But just to stop her. NOT to punish her.

thats what i said

however men are stronger in most cases than women and so even if hes holding her down...and he has no marks...but hse does...just from even being restrained...guess who goes to jail?

my friend who is married.. his wife threw a cell phone at his head.. and he took her by the shoulders and sat her on the couch... NOW he has his son taken away... for sitting her on the couch.. but of course..she didn't mention throwing the cell phone at her head and also gave herself bruises that night to show the cops (he saw her doing it) i thought that had some kind of significance with this post..?

I think there is a big difference in restraint and hitting a man has the right to restrain a woman if she is attacking him but never the right to hit her

It's not a gender issue to me: No human has the right to hit another... If two humans are fighting, then the other one has the right to defend themselves. I was raised to never throw the first punch.

i was watching the real world (i know it's just a tv show, but this is just an example) and the girl got mad at one of the boys and was in his face and screaming at him and he was walking away and the whole time she followed him and got in his face and put her finger in his face and was pushing him, it honestly got me so mad i was yelling at the tv for him to hit her, and i do not agree with it at all, but i think she deserved it. she would have hit him if he'd been up in her face, but it'd be different then, huh people get on my nerves.
