ok, so we're not having a religious ceremony at all. do you guys have any favorite poems or readings that could be used during the ceremony to draw it out a bit? i'm thinking maybe we can get our moms to each do a reading, but i don't even know where to start looking for material. i was going to ask my dad to sing but i think he would end up crying. we definitely need something, otherwise it will be like 3 minutes long and i'm sure the guests want more.

second, we're planning our honeymoon and i'm very excited! it's nothing fancy (pre-finn we were planning on a week in amsterdam), just 3 days in cape cod. at first i thought it was weird that my parents were so eager to pay for it, especially since they're paying for the entire wedding (flowers, dress, shoes, reception, etc), then i figured out that it's because they're desperate to have finn overnight!

I had a catholic church ceremony, so I can't help you there. You guys will have fun on your honeymoon. You'll miss him like crazy, but it'll be relaxing I'm sure. They'll love having him over too. You'll probably worry though.

wow, they'd pay for all that to have him overnight?go for it! lol

I think you should ask your dad to sing anyhow.that would be something so special and something you would remember forever. Smile

Maybe Have your moms make their own little thing up?Kinda like at the reception when people make a toast but only your moms or dads say something?I don't know! lol

i know you said it wasn't religious
but..
i LOVE the reading from " A Walk To Remember"..
its a verse out of the bible but it's so true

Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous. Love
is never boastful or conceited...

It is never rude or selfish...It does not take offense, and it
is not resentful.

Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins but
delights in truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to
hope, and to endure whatever comes.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

it is my favorite

I think if you were to find a poem or song or something that reminded you of Nick and what you share with him it would be nice to read it and vice versa. I think when couples write their own vows is the nicest thing in the world. Of course you two have Finn and you could include him in your words, as he is such an important part of your lives together.

y JP wrote a poem she shared at my wedding. When I got divorced I had a little tantrum and burned it. Kind of wish I hadn't.

I dunno if this is kinda thing you're looking for, but it's not religious.

When I look into your eyes,
I see our future, our past & our present.
We've been through so much together, good & bad,
But I wouldn't change a thing.
You are my life, my world, & my shoulder to cry on,
Nothing would matter if I didn't have you.
Here's to our future as husband & wife..
Mommy & Daddy.. & best friends for life.

awwww! i really love that!

everyone keeps saying we should write our own vows but i'm shy (and i think he's pretty shy about stuff like that) and i can't see myself professing my love in front of everyone like that. maybe i need to just get over it and go for it.

i want the ceremony to be at least 10 minutes. the ceremony and reception are at the same location, otherwise i'd try to make it even longer since people would have to travel from one place to the other.

I really love that too Zanny!

I don't think you need to get up in front of a group and profess your undying love and get all squishy mushy, but write something as it relates to your relationship. If you can relate your love in a Pantera song, I say go for it! It's all relative to the individual

hey b, are you getting married on the beach?

i found this website, and they have a few cute ideas, like the unity heart glass, but if you aren't getting married on the beach im not sure how that'd work.

I'm soppy, I know.. I wrote that just now because I love writing poems & stories. I'm going to write my own readings & vows for my wedding.. Jonny will just have to get over being shy about his feelings Laughing

Aw, that is so good that your parents are paying for everything. That's great! Since you guys aren't paying for all the wedding stuff couldn't you still go to Amsterdam? Or is the issue not wanting to leave Finn? I hope someone else hasn't asked because I only really read your post then skimmed down.

wow, zan, you wrote that?! that is amazing!

terra, we're not getting married on the beach. we're getting married in the courtyard of an inn and then having dinner inside. you did just remind me of those unity candle things though... is that a religious thing? i'm assuming it is but i don't see why we couldn't do something like that since our families are coming together.

tanya, we don't have money for amsterdam and we've never been away from finn for more than a work day (and one of us has always been with him) so i can't imagine leaving him for a week (cut the cord, i know). i'm sure we'll go there someday since we've wanted to since we met.

thanks girls! zanny, i'm still impressed!

Thank you, writing used to be my passion. I just googled wedding readings & didn't like most of them so thought I'd have a go myself.

wow that was really sweet zanny!

b unity candles are a good idea cuz they are keepsakes too. you have your moms light your candle to signify your life before each other and then you take yours and light a bigger one at the same time to signify you unity. i dont thinks its religious. and before your moms light your candle they could read a poem that they pick that represents their motherly love.
just an idea...

also i figured u for one to write your own vows cuz you are so unique and dont jump on the bandwagon i couldnt see u reading basically the same thing everyone else does.
