Q: Bipolar husband is overly sexual. Is this typical?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 20th, 2007
Hi,

Hubby is Bipolar and has been on meds for the past 1 year. Lately, he has been sleeping late and being overly sexual even when he cannot perform.

His meds since October until May has been changed since we transferred to another country. He will have his las tests in mid august.

I am just concerned do you think I need to take him to the doctor or it just normal that he is like that? i do not want him get mania again. Because last year when he was like this his doc got his blood test and saw that level of meds is not ok. So doctor increased his medication.

Regards,
Patrice

Bipolar disorder include 2 episodes that cyclically rotate: manic and depressive. Increased sexuality is typical during a manic episode. Anti-psychotics are used to overcome the manic episode and lithium is used to prevent it. Regarding drugs types and dosage amounts, you SHOULD consult a psychiatrist who is professionally trained to recommend alterations to medication.
