Q: Brownish red discharge and spotting
asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 19th, 2007
I have been off my period for about 2-3 weeks, and I am not pregnant. I haven't had any sexual intercourse or any thing like that for 6-7 months, and just today my discharge all of a sudden went brownish red. There wasn't as much as there is with a period, but it wasn't a tiny bit either. I'm hoping you could help me out a bit, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Given your description (brownish-red discharge 2 weeks from the last menstruation) you are probably experiencing metrorrhagia (spotting). Spotting can be either functional or organic in origin. Functional spotting is due to some type of hormonal imbalance. Organic spotting can be due to infection, tumor etc. You may consult a gynecologist to determine the true nature of the spotting you describe.
