Q: Update Almost 4 Weeks After...questions...

Hi all. Well. I had the abortion on June 21st and everything went accordingly... i actually bled for over 3 weeks... stopped for a couple of days and my period started on friday (normal start time...but it was more brownish).

Well. I ended up in Emergency Room on Monday (2 days ago). I went to work like normal monday and got home to take a shower...well i took off my clothes and noticed that my pubic area had swollen to about 4 times its normal size.

The area that was swollen was the mons pubis... please refer to this image (this is a picture of a naked female pelvis...if im not allowed to post this link i apologize) : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/t humb/6/60/Cleft.jpg/300px-Cleft.jpg

Anyways...just for a reference. I mean it was huge... it was like iwas all of a sudden fat. I have a flat stomach and this scared the hell out of me.

So i went to pick my boyfriend up from work...we got back to his place and i told him i thought i might have to go to the ER... I showed him...he freaked out (i think he was thinking of what happened to one of his testicles when he was 11 and because he didnt want to tell anyone it was swollen out of embarassment he lost it...clearly his other testicle has picked up the slack).

So we went to the ER. Forgetting it was a catholic hospital the doctor i got was a male, catholic 50 year old. He didnt seem to happy to hear id had an abortion...but he didnt say anything, it was just his general attitude. But he slowly became more human as the hours wore on.

Here's the thing. Last week i went to the gym with my boyfriend to do a back workout... we ended up doing some crunchs too...and he totally blew me away... because i hadnt really worked out much in the past two months (because i was feeling super tired... found out that was due to the pregnancy!). So the next day in a very STUPID and immature decision i decided to really work myself out...did a run, and did a hardcore ab workout... i dont think it was anything crazy had i been working out normally...but the next day i could barely move...i wanted to curl into a little ball... it was both my upper and lower abs... i was like that for two days... but it got better (upper abs)... i was still having problems sitting up without pain or pulling. I cannot lie down without the pulling feeling in my lower abs pelvic region.

So back to the ER visit. He did a gyno exam (always a pleasure)...to lighten the mood i asked him if he had to pick between a prostate exam and a gyno exam what would he choose? That got a laugh...but he didnt really reply... i chuckled...he said the only time i really didnt like it was when it was on an obese person and since i was thin it was okay. Whew!

I even had to have a rectal Sad Ive never had one of those... (is that too much information?)

Anywho... they were stumped. He said that i looked fine down there...that i t looked like i was healing at the rate that was about expected for someone 3 1/2 weeks out of an abortion. They also checked my hormone levels...which have dropped off radically... So im not pregnant...or am i pregnant again!

He believed that the swelling in the pubic region had nothing to do with my abortion (whew!!!!!)

There was no pain in my uterus, my ovaries felt fine and the swelling was not painful at all (its just swollen).

So he asked me to sit up which is painful... in a sitting position to lift one leg, then the next...i was okay lifting them separately... then he asked me to do them together...no dice. Painful and very hard. So he diagnosed me with a sports hernia (athletic pubalgia)... and to just rest.

So this just sucks.

Well..today my period has continued in earnest... Im bleeding bright red blood and i just went through a tampon in an hour... which... ive never done. Is this normal to have an extremely heavy first period after an abortion when you normally have very light periods?

Thanks guys. And with regards to the boyfriend. Well... i felt very upset with him for asking for a break an hour after the abortion. After a couple days he was very interested in us staying together..i was very hurt, and had somewhat recoiled back into myself. So thats where we kinda sit. He told me that he wasnt sure he even loved me...everytime he said it to me he questioned it. So that has caused me to distance myself... and im not certain i love him anymore...after how he acted during the pregnancy and after the abortion... hes done many things i find reprehensible... he apologized for his behavior after the abortion and said he made the wrong decision but that he felt very drained and just wanted to take a step back.

hmmm. I also feel the desire to tell my sisters about it. My older sister is 26 and my youngest sister is 15... the youngest is incredibly mature and most people think shes a college student... she is also...to me...my best friend.

Sorry for the length and diversity of this post. I wanted to thank everyone that supported me in my previous post. I am still comfortable with my decision, i made the right decision for all the right reasons...it didnt make it any less easy though... I plan on staying on the pill that works this time (never changing pills again!).

Smile

We're really glad to hear from you!! So often we don't get updates from the people who come here for advice.

Sorry for your troubles! I do think it is common to have a heavy period...

Thanks for the update! What a panicky ER visit that must've been.

I had normal periods return two months post abortion. I do not believe it was particularily heavy.

Did you do the follow up appt. at the clinic? Are you going to follow up w/ your gyno?

I'm glad your bf came around. Not so good with timing, eh? Confused

Glad you are emotional okay as well!

It's good to hear from you-sorry for all the troubles you have been through. I would think it normal to have a heavy period, but Carifairy would probably be the better one to ask for sure about that. What a wild ride you have been on. Since you took 2 months off from your workout regime, ease back into it. I know how tempted I get to really push myself if i have been less than vigilant in my exercise, but I always end up paying for it! Give yourself some time to get back into it! As for the boy, I am sorry he is a frog. I hope the two of you can figure things out one way or the other.

I was just wondering the other day how you were getting along, so it really is good to hear from you!
