Last year while on my way home from work, I felt sharp pains in my arm and chest, and a feeling like I was going to pass out. I have never passed out before but that is how I would describe it. I felt like every part of my body was energized and tingling but had no real energy, and I felt like I was fading away. At that moment, I accepted the possibility that I would die in my car. I managed to drive myself to the hospital and I was admitted as a cardiac patient where I stayed for 3 days undergoing bloodwork, EKG's and the like. I also had an angiogram to rule out any possibilty of blockage in my heart. All of the tests came back normal, I guess since I thought I was having a heart attack, and the cardiologist ruled out heart problems, that I was okay...WRONG!!! It has been a little over a year and I have experienced that same feeling once since then, many other times but not as intense. I am convinced that I am going to die from this but I am not ready, I just turned 30 and my children need me as much as I do them. I am also a diabetic, but every time this has happened my blood sugar levels are fine, and never any hightened blood pressure, the highest my BP went was 130/90, so I am now on Lisinopril. Please give me some feed back, it is the worst feeling.

Hello Friend
I see you are in Sales - it's a job n a half to do sometimes, especially if you are 'cold selling' I hope you take regular rests and holidays from it all, as I think that what you experienced was over exsersion ..... doing too much, thinking too much etc, and your body was warning you to slow down a bit and stand back and let others take the lead for a bit ... the body will remind you that it needs rest, we arn't Superman / woman ... and we cannot save the planet in 1 day ...
You are also diabetic, so you also have to make sure you get the sugar levels correct too ....
Take a rest ... I know that life sometimes doesn't allow you too, but just take it easier.
Good luck my friend, and make sure you put yer slippers on and put yer feet up.

I Had Something Similar
I am a fairly fit guy, 29 I cycle and play hockey. One day out at a friend's cabin, I felt my heart palpitate, then I felt lightheaded like the ground was moving up and down. I thought I was having a heart attack or a stroke. I sat down and tried to calm down, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought I was going to die. I jumped in my car and started driving home. That's when my hands, then arms then legs started tingling, and they eventually went numb. I was seriously getting ready to die in my car, just like you. I decided to drive to a hospital in the next town. They admitted me into emergency and checked my temperature, blood sugar, blood pressure and did an EKG. They said everything checked out. I asked about the tingling limbs, and the doctor called it " paraesthesia", meaning my body was in shock and was pulling all the blood out of my limbs to protect my heart and brain; a normal natural response to danger. I described my symptoms in detail and they said it was almost certainly a panic attack. They advised me to go see my doctor, which I did. My doctor ran a blood test to check my thyroid, but was almost certain it's stress related anxiety. I will be starting counselling treatment very soon, but the information has already helped me understand what's happening. Please don't let this take over your life: go see your doctor and ask about anxiety.

HI both

Hope you feel better soon, anxiety can be sensed in different ways, I couldn't go out the house for days, and I hyperventalated quite a lot, couldn't stop crying over nothing ..... it was stress as my job was getting difficult, and I had an un-supportive boss (she was nasty) .... I also had the tingling feeling and I felt as if I were dying .... but I eventually controlled the breathing, and I started calming down....
I found out that if I made time - about half n hour a day, where I'd just lay on the floor - loads of pillows etc, and listened to some good music, a slow rythm, a bit of Lionel Richie for example, made my heart rate slow down, now when I feel that things are getting on top of me - i go to my special place with the music...
Try it ... you've nothing to lose.... if you have kids .... then try and offload them for a bit ... they won't hate you for it. Housework can wait, dust will always be there, the laundry can wait 5 minutes, and work - well, you are entitled to holiday leave ....
Good luck again friends - and take it easy.

Angie
