Q: Experience Didelphys Uterus

Hello, I was told at the age of Fifteen that I had didelphys uterus. I was also told it would be harder for me to get pregnant and there was more of a chance of miscarriage. At the age of 20 I gave birth through c-section to a beautiful baby girl! She is now 5 years old. I was considered a high risk pregnancy due to my condition. Although I couldn't give birth naturally, besides that I didn't have any complecations during labour. There is hope!

Hi Laura,
Thanks for all the info, that is really encouraging! How was your pregnancy? Did you have any other complications? Did you deliver earlier than your due date? I really appreciate all the advice. Thanks again!

Didelphys Uterus
I was diagnosed with a double uterus after my second ultra sound.I was young and not really trying to get pregnant. I had my son,he was breech, with an uncomplicated c-section.He's five now. I really had no idea how lucky I was at the time. I've been trying to get pregnant for a year now. Every month it's the same thing- I'm late, then I get my period. It's been very hard. I really don't know if my body is miscarrying or not. It's hard to find a doctor that really has experiance with my situation. When I first found out I was pregnant it was a week after being in the hospital for a very bad period. Does anyone else have that problem? I've been told my body actually goes through two cycles because of the degree my uterus is split.(2 cervixes and possible vaginal split)Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mfindley,
I have always had really horrible periods and have tried almost everything to deal with it. It's so bad that I can't even get out of bed for the few days I have it. My husband and I started going to this other doctor who is Dr. Thomas Hilgers in Omaha NB...he's a natural family planning doctor and he's incredibly smart and is really interested in finding out what is causing the problem and treatig it instead of just covering it up with pain medicine. I also found out that I have really low progesteron which can cause bad cramps and miscarriages.....he said that people with this hormone deficiency might not even be able to get pregnant unless they are taking the hormone shots. He did a series of test and blood work on me and foun all this out...actaully just got done have a laproscopic surgery and he found some endometriosis too. You might want to look into going to see this guy, I'm telling you I went through soooo many doctors and he is definitly the one that is finding out all this stuff. My unterus is like yours, 2 cervixes and a vaginal split.......to me if you are having heavy periods that could be a sign that you have low progesterone and I think it would be beneficial to you to at least look into Dr. Hilgers. His office is called the Pope Paul V! institute. He has done some amazing things. Hopefully that will help a little. Good Luck!

Thanks
It's so hard to find a doctor who doesn't just want to cover up the symptoms. All my doctors have been doing is changing my birth control(when I was on it) around, and saying "wow we've never seen that before".Do you know anything about having better fertility in one uterus compared to the other? I've read that has something to do with it in some cases. How did you find out about the vaginal split?(If you don't mind me asking) Mine went unoticed, through multiple exams before my son, until I was in labor in the E.R. Looking back, it explains alot.

Hi, I was diagnosed with a double cervix and uterus when I was young. It is something that was pasted down from my mother unfortunately. Me and my husband had been trying to get pregnant for 6 months when we finally did. . I had a miscarriage--I was recently referred to a Specialist but my appt. isnt for another couple weeks. I hear all of ya'lls incouraging stories but I am scared that I will not be able to have a child of my own. When I was in the ER for my miscarriage the Dr. told me that my uterus are so small that they are half the size of a normal person's uterus. . .are ya'lls small 2?? I pray that one day I will be able to have my own child. . .But I do thank you all for your encouraging stories about having your children. . .
