Q: Excessive Vomiting

For ten or more years I have vomited without a specific reason. It started in the early morning, usually an hour before I get up. I would wake up feeling like I needed to use the bathroom. I start to have a bowel movement and then I will begin vomiting. The vomiting can get very violent and leave my muscles sore for an entire day. I never vomit without having a bowel movement. The feces is not hard or loose, for the most part it is normal but when I bare down I begin vomiting. I went to a specialist and he said he couldn't see any physcial reason on why I would vomit other than stress. I go to bed feeling fine and wake up only feeling like I have to use the bathroom. I don't vomit everytime I have a bowel movement so I don't have a clue on when it will happen. I use to use the bathroom, vomit and be done. Now it happens during the day and night. I also no longer only vomit once but I will vomit off and on for an hour or so. I carry zip-loc bags with me at all times because there never is any warning of when it will happen. I have lived with it for a long time and it is slowly getting more frequent and severe. I actually have gotten use to this but I worry that this might not just be stress related. The last time I went to a specialist for it he didn't even run a single test. What are the long term effects of vomiting like this?

The long term risks are a tear in the asophogus, which leads to death. I'm surprised it has not happened already, since you have had this problem for so long. Also, you have probably developed gastritis, which is irritation on the linging of your stomach. Gastritis can be fixed but tear in your asophogus probably will not. This can happen very abruptly and needs to be treated within 24 hours, or else your life is at a great risk. I suggest you go to a gastroenterologist immediately.
