My doctor increased my seroquel from 25mg to 100 mg and it really isnt helping too much with sleep. I have been up to 300mg before and i just didnt like it because it was making me huge going all the way up to 217lbs from 180.

I have noticed my energy levels have come down and I dont wake up as fast in the morning (sleepy for a long period) however I am still only getting 5-6hrs max of sleep.

Interesting thing though..I met a woman on the internet that came down to see me and yes sex was involved and for the first time I really felt loved. I slept like a baby on just 25 mgs of seroquel when she was here by my side. Amazing what a lil lovin from a woman can do.

I think Im going to reduce my seroquel back to 50mgs to combat the weight issue. I have started on the South Beach diet because I had real good luck with it. Funny thing..2 days ago I weighed 187.5lbs and today I weigh 194.. that is definately not cool. The doctor did increase my lamictal to 200 from 100mgs and Im beginning to feel better (not depressed)

Sad thing is,, doctors dont really care if you become big as a house. I guess because it isnt happening to them. I could be wrong. I do know one thing though, at low doses of seroquel my metabolism cranks and I feel like I have a little more testosterone. Im going to try and replace the 100mgs of seroquel with some meditation, gratitude list, and affirmations. Challenge my thoughts like my counselor says Very Happy

So I guess my question would be this: Does seroquel do something to your metabolism (chemistry in the brain) or does it just make you feel better so you eat more?

Hi there Maltes. It seems like your having problems with your meds....and your Dr.

Best thing to do is get different advice, as much as it is needed to keep you healthy all the way around ^_^.

Also research helps, I dont have experience with Seroquel but hopefully someone else will reply.

Best of luck ^_^

Seroquel Ewww
my doctor put me on seroquel as well. I was taking 300mg a day and hated it. It would make me sleepy but it also gave me RLS restless leg syndrome. He didnt want to take me off of the med so I took myself off. I dont know for sure if it causes weight gain since I'm on lithium I have weight gain from it already.

100 mgs of seroquel is not a lot if you are bipolar. i take 600 mgs and it doesn't faze me. people not suffering from bipolar, and maybe other disorders, would sleep for days on 100 mgs of seroquel. or so i've been told by dr's and what i've read about it.

I tried a few sleeping aids for sleep. All prescription. I am currently on Trazodone. only 50mg. I cant remember the names of all they tried me on but seriquil did not work. I do not take this every night since the drowsy effects from my other meds help out a little for sleep. I let myself go a couple nights without any good sleep. Those 2 hour nights. I pop in one Trazodone and I sleep like a baby. The only drawback is the hangover effect in the morning. A quick cup of coffee fixes that.

SO I am just suggesting that you may need to try another aid if yours is not working. Talk with the doc about it.

Here is my mix. 1500mg Depekote er, 400mg Lamictal, 1mg risperidone, 20mg Prozac and an ocasional 50mg trazodone. This is close for me but about to have it tweaked once again. Just put that info out to point out the other drowsyness I get other than the Trazodone. So to say it may not just be that one drug but the mix of them all togeather that knock me out like that.

There are still some, rare, nights where nothing will get me good sleep. I just have to suffer the day out because of it.

I would definitely inquire about other possibilities. Seroquel isn't the only option. It's difficult to find a weight neutral medication that also helps with sleep.

What is your primary mood stabilizer? Perhaps and increase in that medication would facilitate sleep.
