The chances of getting pregnant while having a Mirena IUD is very unlikely. The Mirena prevents pregnancy with up to 99.9% success. I have had the Mirena twice now and have not gotten pregnant in the almost 6 years I've had them.

I have had the mirena for about two years now! Everything has been fine till about two months ago! I have never had a period the whole two years on the mirena, and it makes it very hard to tell if im pregnant! I have lately been able to smell everything, my stomache is getting round, and i have gained about 15 pounds, also my boobs have gotten bigger! i am super scarred because now i am feeling movements! I have taking an at home pregnancy test that came out negative! Could this be side effects from the mireana and bloating or could i really be pregnant? If anyone has had the same symptoms please reply tell me what u did!

I have the Mirena IUD and have had it for 3 yrs now and I love it... My husband and I don't use condoms or anything and have NEVER got pregnant with this... I recommend this product to anyone..

I am 23 my youngest is 3. I got the iud 4 months after he was born. I am a little person i never gain weight. here for the past month i have gained 20 pounds now i gain 1 pound a week. I am staying sick all the time, staying hungry, tired. If i didnt have iud i would think that i was preg. I also only had heart burn when i was preg but right now i have it ALOT

Not a reply but a question.. I had a baby 10.5 weeks ago.. and I had my IUD inserted about 5 weeks ago.. and then about a week after it was in put in.. I had a normal period.. it was a little heavier than normal.. but it was a period.. well.. i have had NOTHING since then.. and that was about 5 - 6 weeks ago.. should I be worried, I still feel my strings and my husband and I did mess around once before I got my IUD but he used a condom AND pulled out.. cuz I am REALLY paranoid like that.. soo.. HELP i am sorta freaking out! Could I be pregnant???

hey i recently had my baby she is now 13 weeks i got the mirena when she was 8 weeks. about 1 or 2 weeks ago i have been having really bad sharp breast pain. Also abdominal pain and feeling really queezy. Were these your exact symptoms

I just spent the whole entire at the ER to be informed that I am almost 8 weeks pregnant. I had the Mirena in since March. So you can get pregnant with it in. The baby is in a healthy position and the ovaries and uterus look healthy so the will remove the Mirena the following day. I feel pregnant and bloated. I am certain that with the positon on the Mirena at the bottom of the cervix and the baby at the top, that all is well. So yes you can get pregnant with the MIRENA! and have a healthy baby!

i have had the mirena since june of 07. It has never given me any problems at all until here recently. I have hardly no period and i have been having baddd mood swings, and really sleepy all the time. I have had a child before so im pretty use to the way it feels. I really do think I am pregnant. Im severely scared and have a dr appointment on the 7 of oct. Idk what to do. I'm 19 with a 2 year old already and i am about to start college. I am starting to think i can feel the kicks. It may just be all in my head but i really don't know anymore. I should be around 8 weeks if i am and that is about when i should feel the kicking... im so scared and dont know what to do...

Good grief! Like many others, I belived that this was the most accurate form of bc. I have two kids (4 & 5) yep...15 mo. apart! Following having kids, my body would not tolerate synthetic hormones (pills)...leading to my iud.
I was just bragging to all the mom's at my daughter's 4 year birthday playdate last Wed. that I love the iud...no troubles or worries. After everyone left that day, I went inside to pee...spotting...have been spotting for several days. I've also had severe headaches for a week now! Called my ob/gyn following spotting. I was advised to take a hpt. I've taken 1 test per day for 4 days. 3 of the 4 show a very faint "positive" result. After I saw the first positive test, I called my ob again. I had to have blood work done...will find out tomorrow (9-14-09). I guess I should add that I've had my iud for nearly 4 years (Nov. 05).
I was very against having another baby. Just two weeks ago, my husband and I were discussing divorce. I know God works in crazy ways sometimes and His timing is perfect....
Funny thing, I think I'm going to be upset if I'm not! My husband is excited. Maybe this is God's way of proving to me that He can do the impossible and change my heart...for another baby and my husband?!?!?

I have had my mirena iud in since Feb. '06 and am now starting to have hot flashes, some lower abdominal cramps, moody-ness and extreme fatigue. I am going to take a preg. test this weekend for sure after reading the above. I did enjoy the shorter and lighter periods which ended up being light spotting for a day, but I haven't had that in almost two months now! Getting a bit worried since I have 3 kids now and in a stressful job. I'll report back and let you know what happens. Hope you get better news than me Jen.

I have had the mirena iud for a year and it has been the worst year ever always bleeding cramping and feeling sick this birth control is deffinitly not for me. I have three children already my oldest just started kindergarden and i just found out today i am eleven weeks into my pregnancy. Going for an ultrasound tomarrow to make sure all is well had the mirena removed today. So the doctors are obviously not telling the whold truth and for all you woman on the mirena after strong research i have learned the mirena had the highest infection rate for iud's in the us and had the worst and probably the most side effects and if a doctor tells you that you cant get pregnant on it haha thats a lie...

I have been feeling tired last few days I have had the mirena in for about a year in a half now and just last week my breasts started getting tender. I do get sick feeling off and on but not every day like I did with my first pregnancy. I am kinda scared to see if I am pregnant again due to my husband and I do not have the money for another baby at this time. And we both decided not to have anymore kids. what are your guys opinion should I buy a hpt?

Not a reply as such, but more of a question. I had the mirena coil fitted 11weeks ago after having my daughter in Dec. I bleed for a couple of days after it, and had a heavy period 2weeks after its insertion. But nothing since. I am not sure if this is just the mirena working but I feel awful. I am extremely dizzy, waking in the night starving hungry and if i dont eat I am sick. My nipples are really sore, but I am still breastfeeding but they have never been sore before. I feel like I did when I was pregnant with my daughter. My hubby thinks I am pregnant too. I didnt think it was so common to get pregnant on this bc option!!! Going to do a test this week. I can still feel my strings and when I had them checked at 6weeks the doc commented on how long they were. Now I am all confused. I found out I was pregnant at 3 1/2weeks with my daugher.

So ive been on the mirena for alittle while now. I took an ept test and it came back pos. went to planned parent hood took 2 different test that came back neg. I just recently started seeing spots of blood. Im scared to death and dont know what to do. I have no insurance i lost it when i lost my job.

I have just done a test and its come back negative - woohoo not pregnant. Now just need to sort out these stupid symptoms!!

I have had the mirena since my son was 6 weeks old and he is now 8months. I got my period like they said for about the first three months. I hadn't had it since til about 2 weeks ago. The same time I got that I ended up with really bad pains in my pelvic area and haven't been able to sleep at night due to stomach pains. I did a pelvic u/s to make sure the IUD was in place which it is....she thought at first it was sitting very low but she said she thinks it's just that I have a small uterus.....she's treating me with antibiotics "just in case" I am on day 2 of antibiotics and still nauseous and sick. Do you think it's an infection or something else???

i have had the mirena for about a year and a half. my husband and i were not "careful" last month and now all of a sudden im exhauiseted, my back hurts and i am nauseus 24/7...ive never had any problems with the mirena, i get my period every month wether its light or normal!....i dont want to jump to the conclusion that im pregannt, but why else am i nauseus?!!?!?
