Could I be pregnant with my Mirena?
Hello everyone, wow I love this website, you are all so imformative. Right now i'm sitting here feeling "sick" which is weird because I have the Mirena. I've had my IUD for 3 years now. I have two girls 7 and 3 and after my first one I had one and now I have one after my second (love planned pregancies) Wierd thing... my daughters have been talking about having another baby specifically a boy... well, about a 8 months ago my periods finally began to seize and dwindle away...YES well lately I have had some weight gain, ok like every other woman, but my breasts are like "extremly" tender and I feel nausaus every once in a while.. Could I be pregnant? I usually know when I am pregnant because i am all day sick from the time of conseption. This sounds weird but I keep feeling "kicks" Could that be anything else besides a baby? Gas??? but its random and it feels the same each time I feel it. Humm.... im going to buy a hpt and see...I will keep you all updated. Any advice now is greatly appreciated.

side effects or prenancy
not everything can be attributed to pregnancy. i have had my mirena for about 10 months and my husband and i have be talking about having another baby and figure i will be better off just getting on the pill so we can decide when is best.

but back to the pregnancy symptoms. I had my IUD placed augst of 08. I got it because i had heard great things and was hoping for a lack of a period. My husband is in the military and has been deployed since june 08 and we have only seen each other a total of 30 days since. We have not used any other forms of birth control when we have seen each other nor have we gotten pregnant... yes i have tested due to sickness and other symptoms i had before with our first son.

If you researd the side effects that many women have, i found then when researching post mirena fertility, they consist of headache, nausea, cravings, hair loss, breast tenderness, moodines, abdominal pain and weight gain along with some other. I have had all these except for the hair loss but mine has become more oily. My abdomen has also begun getting hardened and extended for days at a time. I actually have days where i look more pregnant than i did when i was six months pregnant.

None of my doctors attribute any other these issues to the mirena but i cant get past all of it. i am going to have mine removed, luckily the military has covered the placement and will cover the removal completely.

My husband was convinced i was pregnant after he came home fore leave in january. I was always sick and stomach pains, pelvic pains, and the smell of food made me sick regularly. I took a pregnancy test and of course it was negative, thank god my son was only 9 months old.

so i would just look at these side effects if you feel you are pregnant but have a negative test.

also i have ended up with "a number" as the doctor put it, of cysts... not on my ovary, but actualy inside my right ovary... which i am assuming has to do with the pelvic pain.

good luck everything. congrats to those who it worked for... but after our next baby my husband is getting a vasectomy... seeing as how i am only 21, sterilization is not an option for me. and more than 1 more baby is not an option for our pocket books...lol

just make sure you double check before choosing any form of invasive birth control... i sure wish i had now... but here is to the future

Nervous and Shocked
I gave birth to my first daughter when I was only 17, then for a short time went on the pill. Two years later I became pregnant with my second daughter, but wasn't able to get in to get my birth control before I found out I was pregnant yet again with my son. Now they are 4, 19mo, and 8mo. I have currently been on the Mirena IUD for 6mo. About 2-3 weeks ago I started feeling sick. Nothing like when I had my first daughter, but more like when I was pregnant for the second and third times. Now in just the last week or 2, I've been running to the bathroom constantly, and feeling butterflies in my stomach. I thought there was such a slight chance of getting pregnant on this IUD that my husband and I have said its probably a combination of other thing. Since I started doing research I have found so many people getting pregnant on this IUD. I am shocked that the FDA hasn't put a stop to the Mirena advertisments saying this birth control product is 99.9% effective. I now don't trust birth control, though I have heard raves about the Implanon Rod. I am getting a HPT now. I'll update with my results.

Mirena and abortion...
to the abortion woman... I AM NOT JUDGING YOU....but I hope you change your mind about making apologies... that child had a right to live... if you do the deed then take the responsibility of the consequences... children are meant to be blessings... not burdens. I dont care who you are or what you do... but abortion is wrong in so many ways... I was raped.. but I chose to have my child. and I love her more than I ever thought I could love anyone... even tho i do not know who her biological father is... her adopted daddy took her in as his own and holds nothing against me. I know if I can raise a child that I didn't want... then I know anyone could...and I am a christian... and I even thought about abortion...but I was on my way to a clinic I thought could help... and PRO LIFERS had signs and were protesting around my metro area... I saw them and knew it was a sign from God.... I hate myself for even thinking about abortion...BUT GOD FORGIVES... AND BOY I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH A BEAUTIFUL RED-HEADED AND BLUE-EYED BABY GIRL... she is 2 1/2 now... and SHE IS MY LIFE!

The Mirena is Not as Effective as They Say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got prego three times on the mirena!!!!!!!!!!! of course my doctor didnt bother to mention that if youve ahd a ectoitic pregnancy that its not recommended. i was 6 weeks prego when my tube detached and i bled out internally then 4 weeks later he put in the IUD. any ways i had it in for a lil over two years and had regular periods every month like clock work then nothing. after 3 months of nothing i would have severe bleeding but could still feel my strings so the doc gave me iron and sent me on my way. this happened 3 times when i finally got it taken out and a week later i tested to see if i was prego and what do you know it came back positive!!!!! so now they say im only 37 weeks prego when im pretty sure in 40 weeks on friday. they refuse to admit that that doctor was wrong in puting that in!!!!!!!!

LOVE MIRENA!
I got Mirena because I was sick and tired of taking a pill every day, and didn't think that a patch or ring would really make too much of a difference because it's still a weekly or monthly ritual. My doctor highly recommended Mirena, saying that in her practice (of 11 doctors) they had very positive experiences with them and she personally had only taken one out because of a patient not liking it. I was only 18 at the time, and new I didn't want children for at least 5 years, so I thought it sounded like a good idea. Let me also add that I am only 5 foot and 110 pounds without any children, so I was very nervous about the installation.
My doctor gave me the typical para-cervical block and also added in a shot of nova cane to help numb everything since my cervix was so tough and undialated. I would highly recommend that any young woman without children ask about some additional numbing nova cane or whatever because it made my installation virtually no-pain! The entire procedure took 10 minutes and I couldn't believe when it was over! The only pain I felt was one very painful 10 second cramp when the tool was put thru my cervix followed by a second unbelievably painful 30 second cramp when the Mirena was released (I hear that these cramps are like a contraction in labor). I could not believe how painless the procedure was and jumped up right afterwards, got dressed, and left the exam room to make my follow up appointment! Needless to say I fainted briefly because of the nova cane and jumping up so fast, hah! But it was not a big deal.
I would highly suggest that you have someone to drive you home in case you feel a little out of it. I spent the rest of my afternoon asleep and laying in bed and for about 3 days ibuprofen was my best friend. My bleeding stopped within 2 weeks and since then I have had very minimal bleeding every couple of months, which lasts about a day or two.
I have not had any of these awful side effects that are on these message boards and forums. No acne, no cysts, no nausea, no dizziness, nothing! I couldn't be happier and trust me I was PETRIFIED before the installation after reading all of these horror stories online! My doctor reassured me that if anything started acting up with my Mirena, she could remove it immediately, so I figured it was worth the try. Good luck!

Its rare but possible
I went in for my yearly exam a year after having my Mirena placed. I had been having some headaches and weight gain so just to rule it out my Dr. did a pregnancy test and it was positive. I was shocked but i think the Dr. was more shocked than me, he just stared at the wall for a long time. He told me that in 15 years i was the first he had seen and it was even more rare that my IUD hadn't moved out of place. He checked with the other 5 doctors in the Womans Clinic and they had not seen it before either. He told me that a lot of the symptoms of pregnancy can also be symptoms caused by the IUD including absent periods which i had. Luckily we found out and were able to remove the IUD only two weeks into the pregnancy now im just waiting for my HCG levels to get high enough to have another ultrasound and make sure its an intrauterine pregnancy.

Could I Be Pregnant??
Hi ladies. I had mirena placed on Aprl 14th of this year, had two VERY light periods within the first three weeks of having it. My husband and I are very sexually active, I have a son that was born in March. About a month back I started having really bad mood swings, nausea, tiredness, and I stopped losing weight. I took the IUD out on my own on the 14th of this month and had light bleeding for only a day. I still feel quite sick. Any thoughts? Could I be pregnant?

well, i'm kinda confused aswell. i had the mirena put in place 11/07 after my second child was born. last month i missed my period and the only reason i am concerned is because i am having cramps and get naseuas at times i also have light spotting after sex. the thought of being pregnant while having the mirena still in place is scary for me but, my husband doesn't believe it is possible that i can get pregnant...i guess we'll see if i get a periond this month!

I'm pregnant with the mirena (though they can't seem to find it on the ultrasound). Figure about 3-4 weeks along, so very early. I'm wondering how the babies turn out for the ones that go to term? How many of them come out normal and how many with birth defects?

To: 3goingon4kids

I was told and have seen first hand that because mirena has such a low dose of hormones (hence why it is safe to breast feed with the mirena implanted) Mirena does not cause birth defects. I would be more worried about the process of removing the IUD during pregnancy... which I'm scared for myself right now there is no way I want to lose a child over birth control, if they find my IUD and if I do turn out to be pregnant, I have been very tired and nauseous. I hope your pregnancy goes well and the baby is healthy and happy .

I think I may be pregnant on Mirena!
I think I may have become pregnant with the Mirena. I have been sick to my stomach, very sensitive to smells, low back pain, frequent urination, exhausted, tender breast...got it all. I already have 4 children was not trying for more. I am worried about waiting to see if this is just the first missed period of many on this. I got my iud in July of 2007 and I have never missed a period just had lighter ones. I have that overwhelming "im pregnant feeling" like i did with all my kids. My home pregancy test came out negative today but its not like me to miss a period. Mine always came like clock work every three weeks!!! What do I do???....I cant go to my doctor(no insurance). Did anyone have pain before beconing pregnant on Mirena? The beginning of July this year I had sharp severe pains, doubled me over, couldnt walk and was wondering if maybe thats what happened...my iud slipped. My doctor told me I would know when it came out (b/c of the pain) but never told me to check it monthly. She told my to come in once a year to have it checked. HELP!

I started about 2 weeks ago. I started feeling Nauesa and having really bad headaches, and hurting in my stomach. All the same symptoms that i had with my 2 daughters. I have a 16 month old and a 6 month old. i got the Mirena in Feb 2009, and my husband says he has yet to find the strings while having sex. And i cant feel the strings at all. . . . . So i am super worried. We were waiting till the baby was 3 or 3 1/2 till we started to try again because then both of my girls would be in school. . . . . . . . . I took a pregnancy test last tuesday on 7/14/09 but it said Negative, but i have been reading on things that said that you could have a false negative pregnancy test........If anyone knows anything please let me know. Thanks

Confused if i could be pregnant
My daughter has had her's in for over a year and just recently she has been having symptoms that's she's pregnant. We took a test but it was neg. Her signs are tired, cravings late at night, gagging, nauseas, certain smells make her sick and she wants to eat some weird crap all the time. She has been pregnant before and had these same signs. She can still feel the strings but says they're lower and more to the side. she had a heavy period then it stopped after two days. Not sure what to think at this point. How long should we wait to take another test????

pregnant on copper iud
Well, have had the copper IUD for 2 yrs now. Normal monthly period until this month, I'm about a week late. I went and purchased a pregnancy test tonight. POSITIVE! I have to call the doctor in the morning. Reading all the information from many women about miscarraige or possiblr baby defects is scary.
