|"The Crusades "
Ah that old chestnut!!!
No you see the saracens invaded europe and were taking our lands for their own ecconomic wealth and were killing the europeans who just happened to be Christian at the time, europe was under control of the pope who sanctioned the crusades as a means of defence against the saracens and also regain the the land lost to them, the invading armies were foreced back to their own lands and that is where the crusades ended. the saracens (todays muslims) who remained in Christian europe lived a peaceful and free life.
Although the crusades involved the saracens(modern day muslims) and european Christians, the crusades themselves were brought about by seeking ecconomic wealth (greed) and eventual trade with other saracen lands, the crusades were sanction not as an attack on the saracens and their religion but as a deffence against their swords and greedy intentions.
"To say that the teachings of any human or group of humans is "infallible" is attributing divine wisdom to mere humans - ridiculous. "
but entirely based on the teachings of Christ.
|"I think the saddest part is the billions of lives that have ended by not a nice act and war over the centuries due to religion. "
You mean "attributed" to religion
99% of wars are due to trade/ecconomic possition but a heck of a lot are attributed to religion.
Off hand I cant think of any wars that are due to religion.
|I think the war we are in right now has to do with religion.|
|"I'm sorry, but the Crusades were DIRECTLY caused by Christianity. "
if you mean was directly sanctioned by the pope as a means of self defence your correct but if your saying that The chirstian faith somehow instigated the whole thing then your way off beam
I think it was pope Paul VI who said the "smoke of satan has entered the church" that is to say there is corruption in the church, I do believe that to be the case, however my faith rests in Christ not the Church an thus in Christs words and thus in the office of the pope.
The religion of money, indeed.
It is funny how Guest believes that many of these wars were incorrectly "attributed" to religion, and economic/political forces were really the motivating causes...yet, the current positions of the church are pure from such infiltrating motivators.
You are a good Catholic, Guest.
He is much better catholic than me!
See birch in here I look to be conservative for being pro-life but then for catholics I'm liberal hehehe
|"And 'round and 'round he goes... "
I know it is hard to understand, it is hard to explain....have patients with me
|Actually, the war we are in now could be somehow attributed to religion. The only reason we are involved with the Middle East is because we supported the Jews when they trampled on the Palestinians.|
