Extremely eHealthy
Cook up a storm & freeze in family meal size amounts before you go in.

Buy as much stuff as possible before hand (like long life milk, cordials, spreads, frozen foods, frozen vegetables, toilet paper, washing powder, etc) to save you needing to go shopping afterwards for awhile).

Change all bed linen & clean the house before hand then if necessary it can wait (aside from wet beds, spills & alike) till you recover.

Is there anyone who can take the kids for a week (even a day or so) after you come home?? Young boys & single mum home after surgery not a great recipe for success.

Get some toys/games etc that the boys enjoy which might help occupy them while you need rest. See if they can go to friend's places during the day even.

Painkillers are a good idea but so are relaxation tapes & meditation (depending on whether you find them helpful) &/or gentle yoga or pilates.

There really isn't any need to be scared so long as you prepare yourself, your house, shopping, someone to look after the boys for preferably a week (of course it does depend abit on how many boys you have & their ages - older kids need less picking up & can fend abit for themselves, only if forced of course!!). I had a total hysterectomy several years ago & spent a week in hospital but I have other health problems as well. But no hassles post hysterctomy other than I couldn't stand up right for about a week & my tummy was painful for a week or so.

Hi,
i had my hyst on march 23,2004 as well!
I have three kids, and my husband had a little accident while I was in the hospital and couldnt help me much when I got home, but I havent done any washing clothes or anything! I do walk here and there quite a bit but I have to cause I dont have help all the time. When I do start to feel uncomfortable I will lay down for a while and the pain will stop,
i hope you are doing good!!! I am sure your boys will help a lot, and yes with you having to tell them what to do, my 12 year old daughter now knows how to wash all by herself!!! And she has even cooked some meals with the help of my husband, I just wish the recovery time wasnt so long!!! Especially since we cant drive for two weeks!!! But we have 1 week down now!!! Good luck and e-mail me so we could talk! That would be cool!!
