laura, i don't think we are even arguing, lol. i feel the same way you do i just would wish that women would not be scared out of at least giving it a shot. that's the same way i feel about natural birth but i would never force that upon anyone else. i guess i just felt misunderstood too but i'm glad that's cleared up.

* ilovemyfishies (sorry i don't know your name yet) i'm sorry that the thread veered off topic. it was supposed to be about which formula is best. sorry!

My name is Kira but its ok i just wanted to get some ideas you know. Like i said my sister was the last one to have a baby but she lives in dc and i have missed both of her pregnancies even when i was living there so i just needed some input on it

well all you can do is try Smile the women here think it's a good idea to at least try it out. there are girls here who tried for weeks and months and it just wasn't working so they either pumped or switched, their babies are healthy either way, but the breast is whats best ( Laughing )

give it a chance because you never know if it'll be easier for you or not. of course it'll be hard, everythings hard! good luck with your decision!

yes i understand it i mean my neighbor even said i should try and she has never had any kids nor been pregnant but i just dont want to have more pain then what im already going to be in

It's guaranteed to be uncomfortable at first, but once both you & your baby have settled into a routine it won't bother you anymore. I tried to breastfeed my daughter but she couldn't do it because she was born early. Some babies just don't get the hang of it, so I expressed my milk for a couple of weeks (which also hurts, but I wanted her to get at least some of my milk because of all the nutrients in it) & then we switched to formula.

Would pumping do that too? Like does it hurt your nipples?

i tried breastfeeding my son but then i ended up bottle feeding, it was just akward being in my parents home and doing it, so i wanted to try it with my daughter since me and my husband were living on our own then so it wouldnt be as akward cuz i wouldnt be around my parents. joseph was on smart start essentials but ive read online about that causing alot of gas and fussiness in babies and he did have colic when he was younger wich really sucked i tried everything i dont think anything like worked it just helped a little. You dont always have sore cracked nipples breastfeeding. it will hurt the first few days but its not that bad at all. They get on a schedule pretty quick though, i ended up breastfeeding our daughter for only 7 weeks though, she was screaming for 4 hrs straight each night and once i switched to formula she slept at night and know has a good routine going on. With breastfeeding you just have to eat a balanced diet and cant drink alot of caffeinated beverages as it goes to the baby as well. You can drink they actually say one beer is good for the milk supply but if u like plan on going out drinking with your husband or friends its best to pump before hand to have bottles for the night while your gone and when you get back in th emorning or whenever you get back pump and dump that milk. its good cuz the baby weight comes off faster. Right now jordynne is on similac advanced with iron wich is ok, it made her constipated at first.Usually at the hospital they will ask wich are you gonna do, each hospital has formula a certain kind and usually if ur on wic or something they try and give you that formula or something similar as well so it really all depends.

breast milk is best for baby but it is your choice wether you breast feed or not you need to make that choice if you feel to grossed out by it themn don't maybe try it because the colstrum which is from the frist days of breastfeeding that is the absolute best for baby and even if thats all you can handle then thats fine any amount of breast milk is great. I did not breast feed my twins and until I gave up trying I was so sick but that was then I had my second and breastfed until she was 91/2 months and she quit on her own. If your baby latches right you should not get chapped nipples a proper latch is the whole nipple with the arloa the darker part arpund your nipple in their mouth as well if they do not take it all un latch them by sticking your finger at the side of their mouth and pop them off. if they have just your nipple you will get chapped nipples. Same goes for a pump as I pumped with the twins and youngest. Make sure your intire nipple witharola*spelled wrong dark part around nipple isinas much as possible and you will be fine. after you breastfeed there usually some milk left on it rub it in your nipple this will also prevent chapping. Okay a good latch you have your baby on his/her side completely facing your chest. Then take if holding baby with rioght arm take your left hand hold your boob and tickle your babies nose or mouth so she/he will open wide you want a as wide as possible mouth then you stick your nipple withdarker part as far in as you can she/he she grab and start sucking this will take soem practising and sometime just happens the first time. remeber You are looking for that reallly wide open mouth. If you do get chapping try not to quit i will hurt try using other breast more but still use it I am telling you it will hurt I had a chappled nipple. There is cream baby can seat not bad for baby. also if you stop you will get engorged and that hurts too. a warm cloth on them will soothe them also try to exprees milk with a pump will hurt at first when engorged. If you see on your babys mouth white stuff that will not brush away when you try to clean it most likely is thrush baby needs meds to get rid of it and you can get it also and you will need meds as well. If you find you a a red hot spot on your breast that is either thrush or a infection see your midwife/doctor/or nurse about it. Any more info just let me know. If I can help I will.

All you can do is try, if you don't try you'll never know if breastfeeding would of worked out for you. It is difficult i'm not going to lie to you and there will be times when you're being woken up in the night and all you want to do is give them to your partner and let them give the baby a bottle while you sleep but believe me it is so rewarding. Either way the baby will get the nutrients that it needs but obviously breast milk is natures own food for the baby so it will always have those extra advantages

Pumping didn't hurt at all b/c it gets the whole nipple.

I really think breastfeeding is one of the best decisions I've made for my baby girl Smile .

I caught quite a bad cold while in hospital, but because I was breastfeeding and giving my baby all those great antibodies I've boosted her immune system and probably stopped her from catching the cold. And I know how freaked out I would be with a sick newborn! Not too mention how bad it would be for her.

I've been pretty lucky with it tho,I just got cracked and bleeding nipples the first week or so...which did hurt! But I put nipple cream on them, which did help immensly.

Now 3 weeks down the track everything is going well....and it is so much easier for me to whack Montanah on my boob at night,or when Im out.Rather then have to steralise bottles and teats and heat up the bottle.

After the breastfeeding is initially established it seems to me to be a much easier (and cheaper) option.

As everyone else said, you should just try it!You never know,it might work best for you!

in my opinion everyone should at least try breastfeeding, if it doesnt work for you then at least you can say you tried

as for formula, dont go by what you had as a kid, remember that baby is only half you

you should almost always start with a cows milk based formula, if the baby doesnt tolerate it tehn ask your doc and let them decide what to switch the baby to its easier that way and in my opinion safer

i had cows milk as a baby although now i am lactose intoloerant, but my daughter has to have soy milk because shes milk protien intolerant, i tried breastfeeding for a week but she lost over a pound so she went to the hospital and we had to stop because the protein in my milk was hurting her

Breastmilk has all the best nutrition for your child! All formulas have come sooooooooooooo close! I think they are there closer then said but im not to sure! Anyhow hun i feel ya on not feeling like the person to breastfeed. But from my experiance my hubby and mother convinced me that it was the best and cheapest way to go! God was i glad! I had to get through each feeding though! ONE AT A TIME for the first month because it wasnt easy and in the first week was painful for me! But i took one feeding at a time and i made it! Now my little guy and i have a great bond. I love to watch him reach for me and open his mouth makin a little noise. ITs so adorbale! Just remember though you should do whatever you feel comfortable with! I guess what people told me was try for a few weeks and if all doesnt go well do formula. I think though that you should do what you think makes you comfortable! I wish you the best! OO the thing that helped me a lot was to read tons and tons and tons of stuff on pregnancy, breastfeeding, and child development! Best wishes!
