I have to write this quick!!

I just called NICU and Brian is off of everything! Today they planned to take him off oxygen and just leave the Cpap (for air pressure) on him today but he is doing so well that they took him off everything early this morning. He just has a feeding tube and some cord going in his belly button to assess his blood gases. I am leaving in a few minutes to the hospital to try and breastfeed. He has to have five successful feeding to be released from the hospital. They won't release him anyways for at least two day but I am so happy right now!

In other news, Nathan has had three normal bowel movements on the toilet!! His poop is suddenly normal. It is such a blessing and the timing couldn't be better. He woke up this morning with a dry diaper and went to the bathroom. He actually held it in until he needed to use the restroom.

My mom has somehow used her magic touch and helped him become regular and potty trained. I honestly don't know how she did it. She got him to eat vegs and fruit that I have never been able to get him to eat. He looks like he has gained some weight as well. Yes, I feel a little like a failure but at this point I am not dwelling. I am just so happy!! I hope he keeps it up when lil' Brian comes home.

Got to run!

thank god. i'm so glad you get to go and hold him. good luck with the feedings. imagine how good he will feel to finally be in your arms. i'm so happy for you. and yeah, moms have a special touch sometimes, although it could just be novelty. sometimes when a kid hears it from a different person it all suddenly makes sense, lol. glad that's getting sorted though, you sure have enough on your plate without any extra worries. thank goodness your mom is there to help. well, i hope everything goes well and you enjoy your time with your little guy. i hope he comes home soon!!!

and just think, your due date partner is still just sitting here waiting, lol. Wink Laughing

Karen, I have been thinking about you!! I am glad you are hanging in there.

Thanks everyone. I am staying in the guest quarters tonight at the hospital because the NICU didn't have anymore rooms available. I am feeding Brian every three hours. He has been successful at every feeding and hasn't needed oxygen during those feedings like the doctors were anticipating!! The first two time he fed, he went for 25 minutes. The next two, he fed for around 20. He is one hungry guy! He gets to go home tomorrow if he keeps going like this. Just yesterday morning the doctors and other staff members told me he was going to be in NICU for another 5 days. I am just so happy. I feel a bit guilty that I am away from our other son but he will get over it. Check out flicker or our blog for new pictures. I don't have the link but my husband posted it in the other threads.

Thanks everyone for you thoughts and prayers. He is exceeding expectations:)

Karin

WOW it sure sounds like everything is coming together for you and your family! You must be soo excited to have him home. Thats great that Nathan is using the potty with grandma! It certainly will help when you have the new baby home I bet he will be a really good helper! Grandparents have lots of tricks.. AND experience! LOL- I am sure that he will forgive you too! Anyway! Good luck breast feeding. You're a very strong lady!

Take care
