I am 16 years of age, and have been
experiencing constant ear infections since
the age of 12. On average, I get one every
3-4 months. At times I could go 6 months
without getting one, and at other times I
may get a follow up infection only 2
months after having one cleared up. The
doctor always puts me on antibiotics, so I
am in fear that the bacteria responsible
have already adapted. He does not take
note of the fact that my ear infections
are constant, and I really believe that
this is abnormal.
I am the only 16 year old I know who can
say they've had more than 3 ear infections
in ther lifetime... This cannot be normal.
I started researching about ear
infections, but most advice I found
applied strictly to toddlers/babies.
I currently have an ear infection. I woke
up this (or should I say last) morning
with a severe pain in my ear. I
automatically realized that I had an ear
infection. The pain grew throughout the
day, and the ear became more inflamed. The
pain is greater than I've ever felt
before, and painkillers (Extra strength!)
are not working. If I go to my physician,
I fear that he will send me home with a
batch of new antibiotics. Should I look
into some kind of surgery? Are these
chronic ear infections dangerous? Thanks
in advance.

hiya, i really sympathise with you first
off as there is nothing worse than
earache....i would just like to say do you
dig your ears alot with stuff??i know the
old saying dont put nothing bigger than
your elbow in your ear but i know alot of
us cannot resist digging them!!i myself
did for years and was always getting
infections and then because of my constant
infections i developed a polylp in my ear
that had to be operated on , but if you
dont dig them alot and you just keep
getting infections then i would suggest
seeing an ENT specialist as alot of ear
trouble can happen when you have enlarged
tonsils or adenoids or even a deviated
septum, do you suffer alot with allergies
or hayfever etc be intresting to know as
it can all be connected..anyway hope your
ear gets better soon!
