Q: Worried I Might Have Liver Damage

I've had a re-occuring slight burning pain on the upper right side of my ribs about 7 inches under my arm pit. I also have a dull very mild ache or full sensation in the lower right abdomen about 3 inches below my ribs and tends to not always be in the same spot. I've had comprehensive blood tests, urine test, stool sample, ultrasound, full neck to pelvis CT Scan (with contrast), chest X-Ray, Lung compacity test - ALL tested normal. I have no other sympotoms and feel absolutely fine. My AST is only slightly elevated (50). All other liver function test are normal.

This has been going on for about 7 months. I've been very concerned there could be a problem with my liver as I was a heavy drinker for about 11 years. I still drink, but much less. I also drink about 3 cups of coffee per day. My diet otherwise is healthy and balanced. I'm not overweight and I'm a 37 year old male. Unfortunately I come from a family of heavy drinkers but no occurances of any liver problems. Doctor says I'm fine but still feel the pain and don't know what to do. Please help.

Hi
I have had the same pain and had all the same test everything was normal. All I can say is stay away frm the caffein, fats, sugars, and red meat, fried foods no coffee. Eat boiled chicken with just salt to tastes and drink a lot of water. Do this and see how you feel in about a day or two, You might just have acid reflux but those 3 cups of coffee arent helping.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be going for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Despite my terrible history of alcohol consumption, the problem seems to be elsewhere. Although I drink very little now and am very proactive about any conditions there may or may not be with my liver. Coffee can cause acid reflux, but it doesn't seem I have that. It is a great liver anti-occident though.
