Q: Another Brian Update (good News)

It's day four for Brian in the NICU and he's making steady progress toward being weaned from the ventilator. Room air has 21% oxygen and Brian is down to a 24% mix from the vent. His blood gas levels last night were very good and he doesn't need a lot of pressure from the vent to fill his lungs any more, so the doctors are hoping to extubate him this evening.

As you all can imagine, this is great news to us. Karin will be discharged today, so she still has to go home without him. His recent progress just makes that a little easier because we know that he'll be coming home soon also.

Thanks for all your continued prayers and support. Feel free to follow the blog and the Flickr photos:

I'm so glad to hear the good news! It would have been nice for Brian and Karin to come home together, but it sounds like he's well on his way to coming home! Thanks for the updates Mr. Karin (Patrick is it?) Sorry! Laughing

i'm so glad she got to hold him for a while. the CPAP isn't the same as the breathing tube is it? is it mostly external? those tubes are no picnic, i've had one before. i'm glad they removed it for him and i hope he keeps making progress. he's looking more robust and healthy all the time. hopefully he will be breathing on his own and home where he belongs in no time!! you're all so brave.
