Swollen Legs And Feet
Posted: 07-11-07 21:55pm

has anyone here ever had swollen legs? i've heard feet and hands and face but my legs are majorly swollen up past my knees. i just had an appointment yesterday and my blood pressure was good and the baby's heartrate was good but that's pretty much all they checked. i knelt down on the floor about an hour ago and it felt like i was kneeling on knee pads because my kneecaps weren't even touching the floor, there was so much swelling in them. my feet are like two big water balloons but they've been like that for a few weeks now. i won't be able to call my doctor until tomorrow morning to make another appointment to get it checked and i really don't want to go to triage because i'll end up waiting for hours before they see me anyway. so i was just wondering if anyone else knows about this. my feet and ankles are so swollen they hurt right now.

I don't know about the swollen legs. I haven't experienced that...yet. I do have the swollen ankles and feet though. Most of the time they are so swollen, they hurt. Dang this humidity!!!!! Just try to give your doctor a call, hopefully they will tell you it's nothing to worry about.

hello there,
sometimes the swelling is just water retenion. I do however think that if you are earlier in your pregancy like 30 weeks or so You should go to traige something could be wrong and since it is your baby we are talking about better safe than not. That was how my best friend ended up having her baby at 33 weks because the placenta had started to detach it self when they went in and got the baby the ambilical cord was almost completely unattached from the placenta. But try not to worry this is very different for everyone. Even if sysmtoms are similar. Does your doctor not have someone on call for her/him. I would at least call the doctor on call.
Best of luck. if everything is okay or even if it isn't take slippers to walk in as they are 1 more comfortable and they allow for more swelling especailly after baby allot of women swell my feet legs hips down were so swollen that I and hurt I could not even put a pair of shorts/pants on by myself LOL I wish I had a better computer I could show you pictures. I look like the michelan Man that tire guy
taykare will be praying for you

I had swelling in my hands feet and calves like mad!
The funniest thing was how bad I swelled up after I had the baby... my ankles were almost elephantine ... if you pushed in my shin it would stay like that ... but now I'm back to the same old bony ankles I came to miss.

Sudden swelling during pregnancy can be something to worry about.
Yes there is usually swelling, but if your extremely swollen over a short period of time, if you push in a spot and it stays like that it can be a sign of trouble.

How are your face and hands?

I'm not too sure what to tell you exactly, but where in Canada are you?
Do you know of Telehealth ... if so pm me and I can give you the number.
They'll just listen to what's going on over the phone , make an assessment and give you advice on what to do.

I never had a problem with triage at the hospital , something like after 20 weeks you get sent right to maternity if your problem is pregnancy related.. but I guess it differs depending on where you are.

anyways like I said let me know if you'd like that number, always better to be safe than sorry.

*edited to add- I just realized your in Manitoba .. maybe I should've looked before I asked! Rolling Eyes

lol, yeah manitoba is pretty bad for that kind of thing. i posted this last night and when i got up this morning it was a lot better. i'm still going to call today if it starts up again, just to be sure. my hands have severe carpal tunnel but otherwise they are not swollen and my face is fine. i'm pretty late in my pregnancy, 38 and a half weeks, so i'm sure it's just the heat and humidity causing it. i'll try putting my feet up more today. thanks to all of you for your answers though, that does help.

I have had the samet thing. It was worse in the heat, and has been much better since its been cooler out and we have had ac. However, its worth the call to the doctor as there are many things that they will ask you or check. Also just stay off your feet and relax!!! Your definitely going to need the energy later on. I have zero energy at this point because I have not been able to sleep. Its been tough. I am hoping that I can catch a few winks this afternoon.. because if I don't go in labor I am sure I will appreciate having some rest before Saturday when they induce me!! Take care hun!!

It happened to me too. It felt really funny too. If your BP and everything looked good yesterday, I'm sure all is well today. Just mention it at your next appt.

Confused I really don't know what is going on with my lower body. This is my fourth pregnancy and it seems to be way different than my other three. I am now 33 weeks pregnant and have suddenly noticed that my feet and ankles are larger, like they have water in them, accompanied by a very swore pudic bone.........what's going on down there?

u should really get looked at and ask the doctor to check the protein in ur urine. i had those same symptoms and turned out i had HELLP Syndrome, which is a bad form of preeclampsia.

better to check than not to.

Water retention is very normal late in pregnancy. The only time it gets dangerous is ifyourBP is high. Means your circulation isnt working to well. But since you said your BP is fine...I wouldnt worry...it sounds normal.
Good luck.
