My toothache is worse when I drink alcohol. I thought it was suppose to be the other way around.

Here's the history:

-Ten years ago I got successful root canal treatment done on tooth #15. A crown was placed on the tooth.
-Three months ago I got a new crown put on because the old one was exposed.
-Two months ago, I started noticing a minor throbbing pain on that tooth and ultimately, an abscess. The interesting thing is that the tooth pain was worse after drinking alcohol. The throbbing pain, although not severe, was worse even after 1 alcoholic drink.
-Last month I got a root canal re-treatment done. The pain has subsided drastically, but I still have minor throbbing pain. The abscess is 75%+ gone, but I'm still in pain, and it's worse with alcohol.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Toothache gotten worse from drinking alcohol?

Thanks

Alcohol causes toothache?
YES! Oh my gosh I was starting to think I was going a little loony. I am having the same problem, on a root canal that was done last Fall. I haven't had an x-ray yet to determine if there is an abscess but reading that having another treatment didn't totally alleviate the pain makes me nervous. I don't want to go through that again. I guess I just need an x-ray to determine if there is anything that can even be done.

Anyone else have any input? Preferably a dentist or oral surgeon.

Alcohol causing toothache
Went looking for this .... Alcohol causing toothache .... I could not believe it was happening ... But I thought if it really is happening someone else will have the same experience... And it is true...the pain really goes right through my jaw and the whole side of my face....might be a cracked tooth. Will find out soon enough. Gerard

My dentist thinks im crazy!! Everytime I drink, the next few days after my back teeth hurt so bad. I've never had any dental procedures, so I dont know what could be causing mine.

I can't even eat mashed potatoes after drinking the day before, I literally have to eat everything with my front teeth. I use sensodyne everyday and sleep with it caked on my back molars(per my dentist) after I drink. NOTHING HELPS and so I RARELY drink because I hate this feeling.

Some of the people can drink alcohol without having any such tooth ache, but when they go with wine, they are suffering from extreme tooth ache. After having wine, it becomes very difficult to eat and drink because of extreme pain.

I had a similar experience, I have a metal filling on one of my teeth and when I drink alcohol it gives it a minor constant toothache but when I brush my teeth or apply some toothpaste it nearly completely stops the pain all I can think of is that the sugar causes my tooth to be sesnative, this can't just be the reason as it has only started recently and I have had the filling for about 2 years

You drink enough long island ice teas and your tooth ache will go away. I had a terrible tooth ache but after quite a few teas, it really doesnt seem that bad.

Alcohol - Toot pain - Clenched jaw
I think drinking alcohol causes jaw clenching/ grinding in sleep which is the cause of tooth pain and compromised dental work. Thoughts??
