During week one of my pills I took my fourth pill 2 hours late. Then I took my seventh pill(the pill starting week 2) 3 hours late. I had unprotected sex in between the two. Are my chance of getting pregnant high? I have been on birth control for 4 months now. I haven't had unprotected sex since taking the second pill late. But is it bad that I took them late? Can I have unprotected sex if I take the rest of the pills on time?

The sensitivity of your body to pills taken late is dependent on your type of pill. Some pills have a small window for error and some a larger window. The less the hormones in them, the more sensitive they are to timing. The directions that came with them will tell you how bad this is.

Keep on taking your pills on time and you can have unprotected sex. Please use more care with the timing. That way you will save yourself from this worry!

Susan is correct. It depends on what type of pill you are taking.

If you take a COMBINED oral contraceptive pill, you have a 12 hour time window to take your pills before they begin to loose efficacy.

If you take a PROGESTIN-ONLY oral contraceptive pill, your window is only 3 hours.

If you don't know which type of pill you are taking, you can look it up online or just post on this forum and I'll give you an answer. I am guessing it is a combined pill since that's what most women take. In this case, you would have nothing to worry about. But, it's always a better idea to try to take them at the same time every day so you get in a good habit of ALWAYS taking them.

I'm taking Aviane or Alesse I believe. I have been on 2 that are very close, same brand I believe but I had to change due to something with my insurance. They are small orange pills with green placebos

Aviane and Alesse are both combined pills. You have nothing to worry about Smile
