Too Much Adderall? How Do I Know When Its Addiction Posted: 11-06-05 02:31am
I don't have add, but i've been having a
really hard time in school. I only have
another year left, and I was hating every
minute of studying (and there was so much
studying to do). So I went to the
psychiatrist and got a scrip for adderall.
I told him exactly what was going on, and
I didn't pretend like I really have add.
Ever since I started taking it, about six
weeks ago, I keep wanting to take more and
more, since it seems like every week or
two I need 10 more mg to get the right
effect. Right now I never take less than
20, sometimes up to 35mgs at a time. I
know that's not that much, but I feel like
in six weeks i'll be needing so much more.
(i weigh about 135 lbs). In the last
couple of weeks, as I feel it wearing off,
I just want to take more, even just 10
mgs. Once its worn off i'm okay, but as
its wearing off I just want to take more.
Its helping me immensly with my
schoolwork, so I really don't want to stop
taking it, but I also kind of want to take
it all the time now. I'm taking it about
4 days a week right now. Its all I can
do to not take it on days that I know I
don't have to study. I don't take it
when I go to school or work, but I would
if I didn't feel guilty and worried about
it. When I first started taking it it
made me kind of anxious, but now it
doesn't at all.
So, what kinds of signs should I look out
for, to make sure that its not getting out
of hand? It has definitely reduced my
apetite and messed up my sleeping on the
days when I take it, especially when I
take it later in the day, but I feel like
that is a small price to pay for getting
through the school year in a much more
pleasant manner.
Also, i'm still exercising and generally
eating well.
Any thoughts?

Adderall And How Much Is Too Much/ Just Stopping the Med.... Posted: 11-11-05 17:44pm
How much is too much..... My son is 11
and has taken adderall since he was 5...
We have increased the dose year by year..
I took him to his dr the other day becasue
he was acting different.. Like the
adderall was doing the oppisite... He was
on 65mg then and when we went to the dr a
few days ago he increased it again, now he
take 110mg... I just dont understand how
that will help him.... He is taking so
much... Im so scared of a dependency...
I want to just stop him all together but
is that safe... I had some friends whos
kids were on ridalin, and the parents
would give it to them for school then on
the weekends just let them run wild... I
want to know if you can do that w/
adderall as well........

Jennifer, those amounts are what the
physicians desk reference book says are
the limits. If you go to your normal
family Dr. to get your script filled he
will pull out this little black book and
only prescribe what the book states should
be the limits. I am 32 years old and have
been taking adderall for 6 years now. I am
currently prescribed 40mg 3 times a day. I
have been on this dosage for 3 years now.
Before my current dosage I had gotten up
to 45mg 3 times a day. I decided to try
the adderall XR the month before I lowered
my dose and it was the worst month out of
the six years ive been on adderall. All
of the horrific side effects people are
describing happened to me during that
month. I will never ever take XR again.
Adderall has definately changed my life
mostly for good. However, people need to
understand that the longer you take it,
the more you will become physically and
mentally dependent. I am both. I
understand that and it doesnt bother me at
all. I also understand that if and when I
must stop using the drug I am going to
have a long hard uphill battle. I plan on
reducing my dosage very very slowly over
the course of a couple of years. Until
then, I am going to continue enjoying all
of the good things adderall has been doing
for me over the past 6 years.

I only take 30mg xr a day and it seems
like so much to me. I read about people
who take way more and it surprises the
heck out of me. I dont see how you can
manage.
In fact, I have been on this drug for 3
years now. I think my daughter is ADHD and
I wont have her tested because I dont want
her on this medication. I don't think kids
should take this stuff. But thats just me.
I dont want my daughter to go through the
things I am going through, such as the
headaches every night, the mood swings,
can't sleep without taking sleeping pills,
and I pull my eyebrows out....and I wont
even get into the depression, or the
feeling that I am NOTHING without my
adderall.
