I am a 34 year old mother of 2 children. I currently use an IUD and am certain that I am not pregnant. I have not had a period in 9 months. I have been experiencing sudden sweats, irritability/depression, easy weepiness, lack of sex drive, crazy fatigue, stress incontinence, achy joints, frequent heartburn, significant weight gain, thinning hair, increased facial hair growth and brittle nails. I was on Depakote, Geodon, Wellbutrin but stopped taking these 4 months ago. I currently take Synthroid and a vitamin D supplement for a diagnosed deficiency. I have also been experiencing a dull, achy pain with occasional burning in the side of my right breast for the last 3 weeks.

I am wondering if I am perimenopausal. I thought my problems could be related to my prescription medications, but prior to February I was still having periods, despite them being light and very long between cyles (anywhere from 45-70 days). Now that I am not taking the 3 psych drugs I would have thought my period would have returned if it was a drug related problem. My gyno did bloodwork in May to check hormone levels and said I was fine at the time, although I am not exactly sure what she was checking for. My own mother is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer so the pain in my breast is especially troubling, although I have read pain is rarely a sign of a tumor.

I have a couple of friends who were medically menopausal (a year without a period) by age 40. Looking back, they realized their perimenopause symptoms made sense, though they hadn't at the time. So it sounds like this could be the case for you too. An interesting source for info is a "perimenopausal diary": http://www.cemcor.ubc.ca/help_yourself/han douts/daily_diaries
More info on perimenopause: http://www.cemcor.ubc.ca/help_yourself/per imenopause

hope this helps!
