Q: Tonsils swollen

My tonsils are swollen, but I don't have a sore throat. I went to the ER and they diagnosed me with fairengitis, but it seems as though I don't have any of the symptoms of fairengitis.

My question, why would my tonsils be swollen, but not be accompanied by a sore throat?
