Dear Doctor

I am 23 years old male before two months i had unprotected sex with a girl of unknown status, one week after that i developed tonsillitis at the beginning i thought it is nothing because i had attack of tonsillitis in past two years, but it is very strange till now my tonsil enlarged without any other symptoms?i am living in country i cant do the test anonymously and if the result get back positive the police will arrest me so i can't do the test.
so i want to ask
if tonsillitis due to Acute HIV infection ,for how many days will stay enlarged?
it is worth to mention i lost about 5 kg in 10 days, but now i got back some weight ,i had a lot of stress in the beginning ,so sudden weight loss can occur in acute HIV infection ?

Welcome to e health forum.

HIV symptoms can be very confusing, and many other conditions can be mistaken for HIV. Hence HIV is not diagnosed based on signs or symptoms. It is diagnosed based on serology tests detecting HIV antigens and antibodies in the blood.

Chances of having a confirmed HIV infection, just by a single sexual encounter is very less.

Weight loss in your case, is most likely due to stress and anxiety. The enlarged tonsils are probably due to bacterial infection, and may need proper treatment with antibiotics and other supportive medications. Hence you should consult a doctor for a proper examination and help.

In case, of doubt, you should get over your fears and get tested for HIV. This will clear all your anxiety and stress and help you move on with your life.
