Can anyone offer any help or advice please? I'm 42 yrs old, with Crohn's Disease, BPD and depression. I'm on Azathioprine for the Crohn's which suppresses my immune system. I take Citalopram for depression, use inhalers for asthma and take Cetirizine daily for allergy problems. I practice good oral hygiene, cleaning my teeth twice a day and gargling with Listerine Original.
The problem is, I have a big hole in my right tonsil which keeps filling up with a nasty smelling white/yellow substance which forms a soft 'stone'. It occasionally comes out by itself, or I may accidentally swallow it (I know, gross!) but mostly, I'm having to locate and remove the 'stones' myself with a cotton bud dipped in water or Corsodyl. My tonsils have obviously changed over the years and the right one is often swollen and sore. When this occurs, I know there will be a 'stone' hiding away in the 'crypt' that's formed in the tonsil. The offending 'stone' can be discovered or revealed by gently placing pressure around the hole or 'crypt' in the tonsil. It either slides out or I have to move a little bit of skin that's formed around the tonsil hole and then excavate the debris (for want of a better description!)
These are really smelly and gross and I am getting paranoid because my daughter has mentioned that my breath is a bit smelly at times. Do I need to see a doctor or is there a good mouthwash that will reduce the growth of the bacteria and calcium etc that forms the tonsil stone?
Please can anyone help?
