I'm looking for a little advice ... my 2 year old step daughter has started some eating behaviors that seem a little off to me. She will either tuck food back in her cheek and not chew or swallow it (for hours if i would let her) or she'll eat and then stick her fingers down her throat to force herself to vomit afterward. My husbands relationship with the child's mother is not good so we really don't even know if this is happening all the time or only when she is with us. One thing we do know is she'll eat french fries or other "fast food" type, but a home cooked meal is generally out of the question. We've also noticed that since she started this behavior, she wants to sleep all the time. Anyone else out there ever have to deal with something of this nature?? I'm looking for any and all suggestions as at times this can be very frustrating for me!

it is very possible that her mother may have a disorder and the child sees her mom do those things. very possible. bring the child to a doctor, if there is a childrens hospitle around, like sick kids in toronto that ould be ideal. ive heard about children with eating disorders before, shes not the first if thats what it is

You are the adults she is the child. Don't let her get her way with the junk food. All you can do is provide her with nutritious meals when she's with you. And ask her what she's doing when she makes herself sick ... or try saying don't do that and you can watch (eg dora). My daughter would live off junk food if she had the chance. But I started turning off the tv and taking away her toys whilst she was eating to avoid distraction. Her Gp isn't really going to be able to tell you much about her strange eating habbits. The only thing you could really do is enforce healthy eating habbits in your house and try to get in contact with her mother and make sure she's also doing this. As it will not work if the mother feed's her take out and then she knows she can just hold out til she see's her mother.
