hello everyone,
My daughter will be 3 next month and for a while has a grenish colour discharge in her pants that whn we took her to the doc last month he said as she had previously ben on antibiotics it was to do with that and to just let it take its course but 2 weeks later it wa still there so i took a outside vaginal swab for them which they said had grown something in the lab but nothing to worry about and again sent home told not to worry. I took her back again as 2 weks later still no change and was given erythromycin but again i feel she still has a slight discharge and i am getting increasingly worried and frustrated. We where told to wash her regularly with aqueous cream given to us by another doc but that hasnt helped!!! My sister reckons maybe try her with canesten cream for thrush but i am wondering if this is normal or should i demand a second opinion on the matter. She is my first child so not sure if a little 3 yr old should have anything at this early and young age in herpants yet
Thanks Siobhan

You need to see another doctor. Green discharge in ANY female of ANY age is an indicator of infection. Yeast infections (also called thrush) often produce a white, chunky (yuck, but think cottage cheese)discharge that smells slightly odd. Not fishy, just not normal. I know this will sound harsh, but did they at least open her labia up and look at the vaginal opening? Toddlers will sometimes insert things into orifices (vagina included) and if she has something in her vagina, it NEEDS to be removed. Especially if she is having signs of infection, ie. greenish colored discharge. I would definitely seek a second (or third or fourth) opinion or take her to the ER.

My 3 1/2 year old has Vaginal Discharge
In reading your story about Vaginal Discharge, I also share a concern for my Toddler. She hasn't been on any antibiotics but began discharging not too long ago. She did take alot of Bubble Baths at one time and I think this may have been the cause. Her discharge is white and yellow. Not green. I don't know if it really makes a difference but it still bothers me. I am a stay at home mom and therefore any other ideas that come to mind is OUT OF THE QUESTION! She is well protected and cared for without a doubt. I am making an appointment to find out what this is all about. I will reply if any help comes with this that can benefit the rest of you.

I'm taking my daughter to the dermatologist in a day as we have the same problem. They determined it was not yeast or strepp. I used Hydrocortisone, then Nystatin and currently Lotrimin. If I stop using a cream my daughters vagina becomes bright red and then my COMPLETELY potty trained little girl starts to piddle in her panties. I really hope this next doctor figures it out. As with you Out Of the Question for my daughter as well.
