TN symptoms and treatments
Posted: 03-10-08 12:08pm

I was diagnosed 3 years ago with TN. The pain is SOOOO intense you couldn't touch my hair, have wind hit your face, lay it on a pillow or anything that would disturb the nerves in the left side of my head/face area. Now I know why they use to call it the "Suicide Disease". I had Gamma Knife surgery in December of 2004. It was wonderful being pain free. I have been on Trileptal medication, which is an anti-seizure med; to keep the nerves calm. Unfortunately late last year the pain returned and they would like to do the Gamma Knife surgery again. I was told less than 1 percent of TN sufferers ever have to have the surgery again. It's one day surgery, in & out, but unless you have insurance you will never be able to afford it. I managed to qualify for a one-time thing through NY State. Well, I do not have insurance so we are trying alternative medicines added to the trileptal. I truly hope it works. My TN was inherited from my mom's side of the family. Yes it can be an inherited disease. It flairs up now and then and sometimes driving can be a bear. Anyone who has it on the scale I do, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I met a gal that has it, but her doctor discovered that she had MS also. So we all have to hang in there and pray to be pain free some day.

Please come back to eHealth? Just came across your post, I have NO IDEA what TN stands for. Maybe that is why so many others did not respond. Please tell us what this TN is. Very curious. Hope you find some relief!

I am sorry I was not clearer in my post. I was on the Trigeminal Neurolgia forum and that is what TN stands for.
