dear friends, fellow sufferers and others,

I haven't noticed anybody go into details about their pain.
My type of pain - in the morning I wake up - there is no pain for few minutes, even longer if I am still drowsy, and semi-asleep, however, as more awake I get, pain starts. So wake up, and then 30 minutes after - pain is usually quite incapacitating where I just want to stay in bed and wish I could fall asleep, as that seems to turn off the pain pathway.

Do you also experience similar type of situation, or is it different?

Please be kind to share.

TMJ Morning Pain
Often, morning pain is a result of nighttime clenching. We now know, that clenching at nighttime is often a reflection of a sleep/breathing problem. The clenching, which often causes pain upon awakening, is a compensatory mechanism to stabilize a collapsing airway. Snoring, fatigue, awakening feeling sweaty, elevated BP etc., are all signs of airway instability and jaw pain is a red flag, so to speak that we are not able to breathe well. Stabilizing the airway with oral devices or CPAP often handles the problem. Restless Leg Syndrome can also lead to TMJ Pain in the AM. This may in part, be a result of low iron...ask your doctor to check "serum ferritin levels"...should be > 50 if you have restless leg syndrome.
