TMJ caused by malocclusion?

I've had TMJ for about 3 years now, which I suspect was caused by the extraction of my wisdom teeth (3/4 were removed).

My orthodontist recently noticed that when I close my mouth, only my back teeth touch. According to a test that was performed, when I bite down, over 3/4 of the pressure is exerted on just two teeth (the back molars on each side of my mouth). My orthodontist more or less dismissed this, and hasn't suggested any kind of treatment for this problem.

Does anyone know how serious this problem is, and if so, how to treat it?

Nope. I used to have braces when I was a kid... twice, actually. All I have now is a night guard.

Kinda hard to describe it but I'll try: It's for my upper teeth, with a downward facing semi circle sticking out to prevent my mouth from fully closing (with a hole to breathe).
