TMJ - Bump near ear

Hi,
I have TMJ, so my jaw sort of "pops" when I open my mouth. The other day, I opened my mouth too wide, and my jaw "cracked" and there was a dull pain. I put ice on it, and the pain more or less went away. However, every time I open my mouth, I can see a rather large bump next to my ear. It feels like it's connected to my jaw, and it also feels like bone. When I close my mouth it disappears completely. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if it's worth going to see the doctor about....
Thanks

That is the top part of your mandible (jaw bone). It can become displaced as the joint deteriorates.
