I have never shown any signs of TMJ until my orthodontist gave me rubber bands to wear. I told him that my jaw began shifting and sometimes locking. When I stopped wearing the bands my jaw stopped shifting as frequently but still shifts more than the average person's. He gave me rubber bands again and told me to try them and see how my jaw is. If the rubber bands make my jaw worse, is it possible for it to be temporary and go back to normal after I discontinue the bands or will my jaw just get progressively worse and then stay like that?
