Wear an OTC night guard with Dentures
Hello Rainbowkitty,

I'm a TMJ dentist. Treating TMJ patients can be somewhat difficult as you may know. I usually make a custom made TMJ splint for my Denture patients suffering from TMJ. But,the SmartGuard Original will work on people with full dentures, as it reduces TMJ pain caused by malocclusion. The SmartGuard Elite will NOT work well for dentures, so buy the Original version.

You can also wear the SmartGuard full time if you do not have any of your own teeth. So, in your case you can wear it as long as you need to.

Hope this helps.

I had Botox injecttion all over my upper Bak jaw, base of the head. I have been waiting for it to wear off ever since. It was terrible. Have has shouldar brusitis twice since the shots.bmy ac joint is degenerated because of it . If you get Botox, don't get it everywhere and get it from a dentist. I got mine from a pain specialist. The botox relieved my neck and jaw pain but my shouldar pains have been constant ever since. It is so hard to live with pain. I wish morevgp would be trained in tmj not just the dentists. My GP still doesn't think that my pains are due to tmj . Although he still hasn't told me what is causing all these issues then.

Hello Mightly TMJ,

Studies for Botox injections for TMJ have not proven to be beneficial. Steriods are just as effective and doesn't come with possible side effects. Next time maybe ask for the corticosteroids.

I've had TMJ and jaw arthritis since I was 15 and have undergone 2 major surgeries, and 2 minor surgeries. I am now 22 and have "the jaw of a 70 yr old" (Quotes from my doctor).

Surgeries help, but with day to day pain, it's best to stay away from drugs like Ibuprofen and Tylenol. They reallyyyy hurt your body and poison your liver!

I recommend seing a message therapist once in a while. Groupon.com usually has some good deals for your specific location. Also, I use this topical pain relief cream that works fast, smells great and doesn't harm your body. It's sold at Mintiva.com and they have different kinds for Back/Neck, TMJ, Tension, etc. They're having a sale too.

Good luck!!

tmj and shoulder pain below clavical
Im pretty sure i have tmj...i was teasing my son and put my fingers in my ears and saying la la la (like i couldnt hear him thing) and quite abruptly felt a very unsettling pain and locking in my right jaw. To be honest it scared and grossed me out! Previous to this i had been feeling a lot of pain in my jaw when i would wake up or during meals when chewing. I cant ignore the pain anymore its getting ready worse
What caught my eye with this site is the related shoulder pain with tmj....i have been seeing an orthopedic dr for about 6 months due to horrible shoulder pain..however my shoulder pain is in the front right below my clavical and a few inches away from my sternum. Others on this thread are saying their pain is down the neck shoulder blade etc...mine isnt tho ....so do you think there is any correlation between my tmj and the shoulder pain that i experience because my orthopedic dr cant figure out whats wrong and has done xrays and an mri on it. Btw the tmj and shoulder pain are on my right side.

stop surgery, operation and any progressive treatment which can only cause other problems and worsen your existing pain. find a good massage practitioner or chiropractor to relax your muscles and put back the joint in right position. Do some gentle exercise and stretch by yourself. It takes time, but should benefit you instead of destroy you. So be patient. And one very important thing, don't chew anything that is hard!
